Biography of Democratischer Wegweiser Henry County Press
Henry County Press,
Democratischer Wegweiser
Pages 698 - 698
The Democratischer Wegweiser, the first German paper published in Henry county, was established at Napoleon in 1867 by J. M. Haag, then connected with the North-West, the enterprise being the out-growth of a wide and growing demand on the part of the German element in this part of the state for a paper in their native tongue. It was edited by Dr. John M. Evers, a gentleman of literary tastes and scholarly attainments, and during the one year of its publication in Napoleon fully met the expectations of the proprietor, wielding a strong influence for the local Democracy, besides filling a long-felt want for a high-toned family paper among the Germans of the county. At the expiration of the period indicated it was removed to Toledo, with the growth and development of which city its subsequent career was identified.
