Why should the angel come this way
To bear my loved children away,
And why from mother's fond embraces
Hide from her eight their lovely faces?

Why not la life's dear offering give
To me my darling children to live?
Were not enough with loving eyes
Imparadised In other skies?

Do not the flowers in spring bloom
Amid the garden's rich perfume,
And little birds with lovely song
And little violets still live on?

Must I my little Birdies dear,
Listen in vain their voice to hear,
And see their little vacant chairs,
And sadly must I miss them there?

Soft whisperings from their spirits comes
Back from their new angelic home:
"O, mother, do not mourn for me,
Our beautious home you cannot see.
