Obituary:

Mr. and Mrs. John H. Ballmer and family living in Damascus township, were called upon Tuesday to undergo the greatest grief to which mankind is heir in the death of their oldest son, Ebert Ballmer, from lung fever. It seems that the young man, from the estimate of all eastern Henry county, was an exemplary son to a degree as to command admiration, respect and love from all his acquaintances. It was his constant aim to please father and mother, sisters and brothers first, then attend to his own wants afterwards. Honest, upright and kind, he was a pillar in the household, the loss of which will ever remain an empty void around the fireside, in the field and among companions. The funeral services were held at the Christian Union Church Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. Foltz officiating. As a mark of respect hundreds of neighbors and friends were in attendance at the last sad rites. The McClure Press touching on Ebert's death, says:

His fatal illness was the outcome of fine traits in his character. A few weeks ago he told his parents that he felt it his duty to not be a burden upon them and that with their consent he would hunt up some work away from home. Accordingly he got a job of ditching. The exposure brought on an attack of lung fever, and the result we have in his death just when entering upon manhood, he being in the nineteenth year of his age.
