Obituary:

Last Tuesday afternoon about 5 o'clock, Charley Bost, a young man about 16 years of age, and who lives with his parents on the South side of the river, met with an accident that cost him his life; the particulars, as near as could be learned are about at follows:

For some time past the young man has been hauling gravel from the pit just above town for Messrs. Hill & Troutwine, but for the last few days had been idle. On Tuesday he left his home, came to town, and went up to the pit to draw his wages; when just the other side of the cemetery he overtook two of the gravel wagons returning to the pit. He got on the head wagon and on looking back saw that William Ross was driving the second. Being very intimate with him, he alighted from the first wagon and jumped on the second; they were sitting conversing together, when he made the remark to Ross that as the dust was flying so, they had better get ahead. At this Mr. Ross turned to one side of the road and was trotting his horses gently along; when they reached the side of the first team they gave a sudden start and began running at a lively rate and one of the lines was jerked from the driver's hands. Being unable to stop them, they ran some distance, when he pulled with the one line in order to head, them toward the fence, in doing so they ran overs small stump; knocking the boards from the wagon and throwing Charley underneath, dragging him some distance. On picking him up he was found to be dead, his neck being broken and the back part of his head crushed in, an ugly gash in the back of the left ear, and a terrible bruise on the left limb between the knee and ankle. He was brought to town and taken to Bitzer's undertaking room. It was deemed unnecessary to hold an inquest, as the facts clearly demonstrated the fact that it was accidental killing. He was removed to his home later in the evening.
