Ridgeville Items -- The most noteworthy event of the past week in this vicinity was the death of Dr. J. B. Emery, the oldest person in this township. He had been a resident of this vicinity about twenty-nine years. He was born la Walpole, New Hampshire, in 1798. In 1816 be moved to Lake county, O., and began the study of medicine, paying his way, teaching school, doing chores or working at any reputable employment, until be felt himself competent to enter upon medical practice, which was commenced by him at Carollton in the eastern part of this State, where he remained until 1835, in which year he moved his family to this township, where be has since resided. If long practice is any evidence of success in a particular calling, then Dr. Emery must have been a very successful physician, for be continued in that vocation some forty years. In 1815 when seventeen years of age, he was seriously injured by the falling of a tree which broke one of his thighs, making him a cripple for life. He died of no particular disease, old age alone being the cause.
