| Obituary: Sad Casualty We learn that on last Friday a son aged 14, of Mr. Barnard Geer, of this (York) township, lost his life, as follows; during the absence from home of his parents, the boy and two younger children were playing in the house; while thus engaged the boy went up a ladder into the garret after a halter, saying he would hang himself. He tied one end of the halter to the ladder and the other with a slip-noose round his neck, leaving it long enough for him to walk upon the floor. Pulling against the halter, the noose tightened, choking him; gasping for breath, and unable to release himself, he ran up to his playmates sitting in front of the fire, who supposed he was in fun making faces at them, and told him to take cre or would burn himself. The boy, unable to speak and fast losing his strength, then staggered round the corner of the chimney and sat down, out of sight. In a short time the others went to see what he was about, and found the blood running from his mouth. Alarmed, they ran for their mother, who was at the neighbor's at some distance; when she, with some others, arrived, the rope was immediately cut, but too late -- the boy was dead. Delta Dem. | ||
