| Obituary: McGLONEOur mother, around whom we have gathered today to pay the last tribute of respect, Charlotte McGlone, was born in Huron co., Ohio, January 24th, 1819, and died at Florida, Henry County, Ohio, Nov. 21st, 1888, aged 69 years, 9 months and 27 daysShe was united in marriage to Edward McGlone at Norwich, Huron County, Ohio, Sept. 10th, 1838. She lived in the bonds of matrimony fifty years and a few months. She was the mother of 14 children, eight having already passed over on the other side of the River, while the husband and six children are still living to mourn the loss of a kind mother. One son died In the army at Corinth, Mississippi; two brothers died In less than forty-eight hours apart, while three of the family died in less than two months apart, and in the short span of time, 3 years, nine have been transported beyond the River, while a loving companion and six children and many kind friends linger by her grave and weep, but may they remember that earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal. This loving wife, the gentle mother, the constant friend, is gone now -- sweetly she sleeps the last sleep; she has closed the eyes that have shed their last tears, laid the hand on the bosom that has heaved the last sigh, and have placed her sweetly in the arms of a Christian grave. As a mother, oh, how gentle, tender and patient, how anxious she was for her children's welfare -- she governed them so as to win their respect, caring for their religious training, and often gathering them about her knee and reading to them out of God's Word and instructing them its teaching upon the youthful minds. But she is gone, she will no more go in and out among us. Thus another immortal soul has been taken from earth and been permitted to enter through the gates into the City. May all remember the funeral text delivered on this occasion by Rev. Barker, Pastor in charge, from 1st Corinthians, 13th Chapter and part of the 13th verse: 'Then shall I know even as also I am known.' Her funeral took place at the M. E. Church, at Florida, where a large congregation gathered and followed the remains to the cemetery at Florida, and the many tears that were shed attested the strong hold she had upon the affections of all who knew her. May the great Comforter sustain the sorrowing ones and ultimately bring them all to meet again in the sweet bye and bye. It was Wednesday morn' at three. With death she did not fear to meet- From earthly friends she's gone sway. The day we laid her in the tomb J. W. | ||
