Horrible Suicide
John Miller, Wealthy Farmer of Damascus Twp.
Throws Himself Under a Clover Leaf Train at Grelton and is Beheaded
A horrible case of suicide was witnessed by a number of citizens of Grelton near the Cloverleaf depot Tuesday morning.
As the 7:30 west bound train No. 3 was pulling into the depot, John Miller, a wealthy farmer of 75 years of age residing one mile east and half a mile south of Grelton, deliberately laid down with his head across the rails and was beheaded by the wheels, his head falling on one side and his body on the other side of the track.
The deed was witnessed by the Cloverleaf agent and section crew and a number of Grelton residents who were about to board the train. They were unable to reach the unbalanced man in time to pull him from the rails and were horrified spectators of the deliberate suicide.
Mr. Miller was the owner of his own farm and no reason can be given for his terrible action. He leaves a wife and two sons of his immediate family.
