A Funeral at a Pic-Nic -- A correspondent writes us as follows:
I attended the pic-nic of the Damascus township Sabbath schools last Thursday, some six schools were represented, exercises consisting of singing by schools and short addresses by the preachers present, refreshments good and abundant but the finishing touch was the most remarkable I ever witnessed at a pic-nic, viz: A funeral. About 2 p.m., the procession slowly wended its way into the grove, deposited the corpse in front of the speakers stand and a regular funeral sermon was then preached by the Rev. John Meyers, after which the corpse was exposed to view and the cries and tears of the friends closed the scene and the pic-nic. Powless was the name of the deceased. (Uncertain where the name Samuel Paulus came from, as the only name in the obit is Powless.)
