Ridgeville Items -- One of the saddest funerals, and one which has cast a gloom over this township, was that of Mr. John E. Reynolds, and his excellent wife, the former on Tuesday, April 8th, and the latter on Thursday, the 10th, only two days after her husband. Mr. Reynolds was born in Lancaster, Pa., Jan. 28, 1817. He came to this township in 1840 when it was all a howling wilderness, there being only a few persons who preceded him. Shortly after coming here be was married to Miss Elizabeth Mosher, whose father was the first settler in this township, and with whom be lived harmoniously until his decease. United in their lives, they were scarcely divided in death. Mrs. Reynolds was born in Jefferson county, N. Y., Dec. 25, 1827, and was therefore of the age of 56 years, 3 months and 10 days, while the age of Mr. Reynolds was 67 years, 2 months and 11 days. The disease which carried them away was malarial fever, Mr. Reynolds being sick but 11 days, and Mrs. Reynolds about one week. Mr. Reynolds was a man of the most decisive integrity. As a citizen, be was ever found on the right side of every moral question, and however much he may have disagreed with his fellows in political matters, none questioned his honesty of purpose. As a husband he was all that could be desired. As a father be had the tenderest regard for his children. As a Christian, be was universally regarded as eminently faithful. For nearly forty years he was a member of the M. E. Church, and he and his wife were members of the first class organized at this point. Mrs. Reynolds was a woman of retiring disposition, but, true and faithful in all the relations of life, and one whose memory will even be cherished by all who knew her. The double funeral services of the deceased took place on Friday, attended by an immense concourse of citizens, and were exceedingly impressive, being conducted by Rev. J. T. Pope, assisted by Revs. N. S. Worden and Geo. Struble, of this place, and Revs. Diemer and W. J. Hodges, of Defiance, at the close of which their remains were both interred in the same grave in our beautiful cemetery.
