Obituary:

Tuesday afternoon Henry Westenfield and Otto Evers went to the canal just above the foot bridge to take a boat ride. Henry entered the boat which was a very poor affair and had paddled but a few feet from the shore when it upset, throwing him in the water. The depth at this place was just deep enough to cover his head and he sank, screaming for aid. His companion at once ran for help, and summoned Frank Rose who shed to the scene with all possible celerity. Before he arrived however the little fellow had sunk for the last time. Jumping in the water, Rose found the drowned boy on the bottom of the canal but a few feet from where he had gone down. He carried him to the bank and messengers were dispatched for medical aid. This failed to arrive for fully three quarters of an hour and all attempts at resuscitation: failed. The boy was under the water about 15 minutes. He was about 10 years old and son of Mrs. Dr. Westenfield. The mother is overwhelmed with grief. The day was her birthday and at the time of the accident she was attending a dinner party at the home other sister, Mrs. Chas. Evers. The little fellow had been there also and was about to complete his day's pleasure with a boat ride.
