D. C. Brown, aged 72, died at his home in Deshler Friday afternoon, March 7, at 3:45 P.M.
Mr. Brown had been ill for the past two weeks, but had been confined to his bed for only two days before his death. Since the first of the year, the condition of the deceased had been slowly becoming worse, a disease of the kidneys finally resulting in death.
For the past several years, Mr. Brown was the caretaker at the city park and the janitor at the Methodist Church. In the former capacity, which he took over several years ago, he served the city well, keeping the park cleaner and neater than it had been for many years. A good many came to know him through his work there.
David Corbin Brown was born near Jackson Center, Shelby Co., O., November 15, 1858, the son of Nathan Brown and Tabitha Darnell. He attended the school near his home in Jackson Center. On November 9, 1882 he was married to Frances Daube and to this union one child, Pearl, was born. The child died in infancy, and Mrs. Brown died in February 1884. On October 22, 1886 [official records give the date as October 27, 1886], the deceased was married to Hester Anne Cammomile of Jackson Center and to them eight children were born, six still living. The children are Vergie, Viola, Melvin, Inez, Wilder and Mable and the two preceding him in death, Frank and Stella. Mrs. Brown has been dead but a short time, having passed away quite suddenly September 16 of last year.
Mr. Brown was a member of the Macabees, a member of the M. E. Church where he had been janitor until the first of the year, bad health causing him to give up the work. He was to have taken up his job as caretaker at the park this month.
Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church Monday afternoon at two o'clock, Reverend Arthur, a former pastor, officiating, and interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery.
