Mr. Johnson, a brakeman on the Great Central freight train, jumped from the pilot of the train onto the tracks right ahead of the No. 6 and was hurled quite a distance through the air, being killed instantly. It is supposed that the noise of the freight train and the engine blowing off steam was such as to deaden the approach of the passenger train. He was a married man, 34 years of age and lived in Lima.
