James U. Blue
In his residence in Ayersville on the past Thursday, James U. Blue, one of the pioneers of Defiance county, died after a lengthy illness. He had recently had a leg amputated, hoping for relief from gangrene (from diabetes?), but his illness was already too far advanced and even with such heroic efforts could not be halted. Already six years ago hints of the disease appeared and at that time the patient lost two toes. The deceased had brought his age to 81 years. He was a veteran of the civil war and well known also here in Defiance, where he had lived for many years. Surviving him is his widow, whom he married not that long ago, two sons and three daughters. His remains were given Christian burial on Saturday.
