The well-known by all former saloon-keeper William Gleason passed away on Tuesday morning about 2:30, in the home of his son-in-law Frank Baker, No. 118 Seneca street Est Defiance. The cause of death was cancer, from which the deceased had suffered for many years. William Gleason was born on 13 August 1837 in Ireland, but came to America with his parents as a 6 year old bot. As a young man he traveled (?toured) the entire united states, and came to Defiance about 40 years ago, where he had a saloon on the corner of Jefferson and Hopkins Streets and also served a term as streets commissioner. His wife died twenty-eight years ago, and since then he maintained his own house with his family, until about eight years ago when he took up residence with the family of his son-in-law, the policeman Frank I. Baker. The deceased had been visiting his stepson Peter w. Becker in Washington D.C. up until a few months ago, when he recognized the signs of his approaching end, then he returned to Defiance, where he was lovingly cared for until his life's end. He leaves behind two sons, one daughter, two stepsons and one stepdaughter. The burial will take place Friday morning from st. Mary's English Catholic Church under the direction of the Pastor I.F. Collins.

Dorothea Sophia Dickman
Last Friday afternoon about four o'clock, in her home in Pleasant Township, Henry county, Dorothea Sophia Dickmann, a born Demland and widow of the late Rudolph Dickmann, was released by Death from her sickbed of many years. she was born on 12 Au9ust 1837 in the district of Magdeburg. As a 20 year old maid she emigrated to this country, and almost immediately settled on the so-called south Rid9e, where has remained her home up to the end of her life. In the year 1858 she married Mr. Rudolph Dickmann, to whom she bore six children. of these, three, along with the husband of the deceased, preceded her to a better world. The remaining children are Wilhelm Dickman and Mrs. Peter Hornung, both residing in Pleasant Township. Besides these, surviving the deceased are three brothers Wilhelm, Christ. and Friedrich Demland, who also live in the aforementioned township.
Monday morning, the remains were taken from the former home and the German Methodist Church on the south Ridge to the grave. Pastor I. C. Gunther led the funeral, which was attended by a great number of mourners.
Wilhelm Gherke
In the home of his son Albert, in Columbus Ohio, William Gherke died from a stroke on Thursday evening of the past week, at the age of 73 years. He was a tailor by profession and lived for many years in Defiance, as most of the older residents can well remember. His wife, who preceded him in Death, was a born Kahlo. survivors include eight children, among whom are the machine-worker Henry F. Gherke, residing. here on west Hopkins street. The remains were brought hither Saturday and laid in Riverside cemetery. Pastor Clayton A. Smucker officiated.

Barbara M. Martin
In her home 658 Clinton Street on Saturday morning past at about eleven o'clock, Miss Barbara M. Martin died after a long illness, at 52 years and 2 days, of exhaustion. she was born here in Defiance, the eldest daughter of Conrad and Margarethe Martin, both of whom preceded her to their eternal rest, and spent her entire life among us. By nature meek (?shy) and of a retiring disposition, as she was, her circle of acquaintances was not large; but by those who knew her, she was loved and cherished. she leaves behind here two siblin9s, namely Miss Marie Martin and Gottlieb Martin, and a sister Mrs. Henriette Goller in Appleton city, Missouri. The burial took place Monday afternoon under the direction of Pastor W.H. Bunge from the former home to Riverside cemetery.
John Boyd
From rheumatism and a heart problem, John Boyd died on Monday morning about 8 o'clock in his home in Highland Township at the age of 68 years, 7 months and 28 days. He was born on 26 May 1356 (actually) in Seneca County in our state, and in 1861 settled with his wife Catherine Ann, born Bell, on the farm in Highland Township, which remained his home until the end of his life. The deceased served in the civil was as a member of the 3rd Ohio cavalry Regiment, and received in the service of his Fatherland wounds, which bothered him for the rest of his life. surviving him are his widow with six children: T. A., A. A., Frank, Dora, Charles and Bell Boyd; one daughter already preceded the deceased into Eternity. The burial took place yesterday morning at 10 o'clock from the former home and 11 o'clock from the Highland Church. The Bishop Post of the Grand Army here, to which the deceased had belonged, provided six comrades to carry the remains to the grave.
