Friedrich Aschbacher died peacefully in his sleep Sunday afternoon shortly after two o'clock in his residence at 851 Washington Street from the infirmities of age in the 82nd year of life. Born in June 1830 in the Kingdom of Württemberg, he spent his youth in the old fatherland and learned there the trade of tailoring, with which he was able to feed himself and his (family) well into his old age. In the year 1855 Friedrich Aschbacher immigrated to this country and settled in Defiance, where he spent the remainder of his life. On the 23rd of June 1861 he was married by the late Pastor Adam Detzer with Miss Friederike Hasch, who gave him five children and with whom he celebrated the golden wedding anniversary in the preceding year. All five children mourn with the widow his passing; they are W. F. Aschbacher in Jersey City, N.J., Mrs. Louise Hodge and Mrs. E. Clemons in Denver, Colorado, Mrs. Hermann Art in South Richland and Mrs. John March in Defiance. Besides these there are 2 grandchildren left behind and a large circle of more-distant relatives. Even into a great age Mr. Aschbacher enjoyed fairly good health, but in the past six months he had become very fragile, so that to him death surely came as a release. The deceased was a member of the St. John's Reformed congregation, where he served faithfully for many years as the Sunday-school superintendent and director. He also belonged to the A.G.D. Sickness Support Society since the founding of this federation.
He was in all ways upright and also to us a dear old friend. we wish him heartily entrance to his Lord's joy. The burial took place Wednesday afternoon in the Riverside Cemetery, after Pastor N. E. Bitz had held the funeral service in the family residence at half past one o'clock and at two o'clock in the St. John's Reformed Church.
