In his home on Holgate Avenue on Thursday evening shortly after six o'clock, Antoine Daoust died at the age of 83 years, 5 months and 21 days. He was born on 13 October 1823 in Boudrie in the Canadian province of Quebec and came in the fall of 1869 to Defiance, where until the year 1895 he was successful as a purveyor of timber for ship building. Since then he has enjoyed his well-earned rest and been blessed with good health until shortly before his death. His death was caused by gastritis. He is survived by a wife with the following seven children, who all reside here: Charles J. Daoust, Wm. B. Daoust, Louis E. Daoust, Mrs. Napoleon Daoust, Mrs. F. L. Hay and Misses Flora and Albina Daoust. One daughter died a few years ago, and of his seven siblings only one brother survives.
The deceased was in all things an exemplary citizen and stood high in the regard of his acquaintances. His remains were taken Monday morning from the English Catholic Church under the direction of Father Collins to the Riverside cemetery.

Mrs. Antoine Daoust
The widow of Antoine Daoust did not long survive her beloved husband, who was taken to the grave Monday morning. Monday evening about 8:30 she was in her home, having just laid down to rest, and died suddenly of a heart attack. Without a doubt her death was hastened by her grief at the separation from her husband. The deceased's maiden name was Domathile Foyell, born 15 May 1827 in Ontario province, Canada. with her just recently deceased husband she had lived 56 years in happy marriage. The burial will take place this morning at 9:30 from the English Catholic Church. [We wish] our sincere sympathy to the survivors.

Mrs. August Bögert
Mrs. August Bögert, residing on Rulf street in East Defiance, swallowed a sewing needle, which stuck in her gullet and had to be removed by a doctor.
Henry Kniss
In the building on upper Perry Street, in which the shoemaker Henry Kniss works, a fire broke out Sunday morning about 3 o'clock. The fire department contained the damage to one hole, burned in the floor.
Christian Beckmann
Christian Beckmann of Adams Township, who passed away on 29 March, was born on 30 September 1826 in Windeberg by Stendal, Germany. In the year 1854 he entered into holy Matrimony with Dorothea Sophia Schulze. The marriage was blessed with three children, of whom two preceded their father into Eternity. one daughter died as a child, the other at the age of 23 years. A short time after their marriage, Chistian Beckmann and wife immigrated to America and settled on the North Ridge. There the now deceased lived for all the rest of his life and practiced agriculture with diligence. He also worked well and truly for the good of the Lutheran Bethlehem congregation, which in him has lost the last of the founding members. well into old age, he enjoyed very good health; only the last three years were a trial of infirmity for him, which he bore with great patience, until the Lord released him on 29 March [1907] with an easy death. His pilgrimage lasted 80 years, 5 months and 29 days. He is survived by his widow, one daughter, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The remains were carried to the grave on Monday, 1 April, under the direction of Pastor H. Schultz. -- May he rest easy!
Mrs. Cecelie Karst
After a wearying siege of illness, on Thursday morning about 10 o'clock, Cecelie Karst, widow of the late Jakob Karst, died of cancer. She was born on 19 December 1833 in the Elsass (aka Alsace-Lorraine) and came in 1852 to this country where she settled first in Findlay OH. There she married Jakob Karst, with whom she came to Defiance in the year 1859, to remaine living here until her death. surviving are the following children: Charles Karst in North Carolina, Mrs. J. B. Tennyson and Mrs. A. J. Kuntz in Toledo, Mrs. J. M. Goodman in Portsmouth, O., Louis Karst in Atlanta, Ga., Emil Karst in Akron, O., Mrs. John Bridenbaugh and Mrs. M. A. Stoll and Edward and Fred. Karst in Defiance. Her husband preceded her into Eternity about ten years ago. The remains were taken Saturday morning from the English Catholic Church to the Riverside cemetery.
