Wilhelm Demland on last Thursday morning shortly before 3 o'clock in his residence in Pleasant Township, Henry County, where he had lived for many years, was freed from a severe illness by an easy death. Joachim Friedrich Wilhelm Demland, which was his full name, was born on the 4th of April 1840 in Wiebke, Gardelegen County, Magdeburg district and in the year 1857 came to this country with his parents, 3 brothers and 2 sisters. On the 3rd of April 1862 he married Miss Elisabeth Hornung of Pleasant Township, who gave him 13 children, of whom 2 sons and 5 daughters have preceded him in death. Surviving with the deeply mourning widow are 3 sons, 3 daughters, 13 grandchildren and his brother Christoph. While the deceased served for the Union in the Civil War, he contracted a severe asthmatic condition from which he never recovered , that gave him much pain and eventually brought about his death.
His mortal remains were brought Sunday morning from the German Episcopal Methodist Church on the South Ridge under the direction of Pastor W. P. Ruckheim to the grave. Members of the Bishop Post [GAR], to which the deceased had belonged, gave him an honor guard to the grave site. To the dear friend of many years, we wish from the heart Eternal Rest!
