Katharina Spieth, a born Jungina and the wife of Mr. Wilhelm Spieth, died on Sunday the 23rd of August shortly before midnight in her residence in New Bavaria, from kidney and heart disease at the age of 77 years, 9 months and 6 days. She first saw the light of day on the 17th of December 1830 in the Eslingen district of the Kingdom of Wuerttemberg and came in the year 1857 to America, where she settled in Medina County in our state. There also on the 4th Sunday of Advent that same year, she gave her hand to Wilhelm Spieth in a generally happy bond, which now Death has broken. In 1859 the Spieth family settled in Henry County and since have remained resident there. The marriage was blessed with 4 sons and 6 daughters, of whom 1 son and 2 daughters have preceded their mother into Eternity. With the now totally alone widower, there mourn her passing 3 sons, 4 daughters, 46 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
The burial took place Wednesday morning, the 26th of August, under the direction of Albin Beer from the Reformed Church by New Bavaria. From this area, [the funeral] was attended by Mrs. George Smith from Defiance, Hermann Kopp and wife and Thomas Wight and family from Highland Township.

Mrs. Elisabeth Dicus
Mrs. Elisabeth Dicus, a born Listermann and the wife of Mr. George H. Dicus, died Sunday morning in her residence No. 825 Jackson Street from Bright's kidney disease. She was born on the 12th of October 1846 in Helmstadt, Bavaria, and came as a 5 year old child with her parents to this country. In 1863 she married John Fleck, who fell in the Civil War; from this marriage, Mrs. William Keaver in Convoy, O., is the only child. Geo. H. Dicus, who survives her, she married here in 1867. Along with him, the following children remain behind: Emmett H. Dicus, of here, Mrs. William Crew in Ligonier, Ind.; Mrs. George Colvin in Toledo, O.; Mrs. Orin Dickason in Lafayette, Ind.; Mrs. M. M. Fletcher in Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. Frank Newton in Toledo, O.; George W., Henry B., Jeanette, Edith and Helen Dicus in Defiance. The deceased belonged to the German Ladies Aid Society and the Women's Relief Corps. Her remains were buried Tuesday afternoon from the former residence under the direction of Pastor W. W. Lance in Riverside Cemetery. Both Ladies Societies provided a funeral cortege.
Friedericke Eberle
Friedericke Eberle, a born Roth and the wife of the German pioneer Matthäus Eberle, died peacefully in her sleep Saturday morning about a quarter to four, here in the residence of her daughter Mrs. Kathe Chubb on Pearl Street. She was born on the 17th of July 1825 in Klein-Bottwar, District of Marbach, Wuerttemberg. On the 9th of July 1850 she married Matthäus Eberle, with whom she came to this country four years later, to settle, after a Short sojourn in Cleveland, O., on the South Ridge. There they still remained, until the infirmities of age no longer allowed them to work about the farm: Since April of the year 1907, Mr. & Mrs. Eberle have lived here in Defiance with their son-in-law Jakob F. Ruess. Mrs. Eberle was on a visit to her daughter Mrs. Kathe Chubb when she was stricken by bleeding which rapidly led to her unexpected death. Surviving her are her spouse and the children Gottlieb Eberle in Highland Township, John M. Eberle, Mrs. Kathe Chubb, Mrs. Christine Obermüller and Mrs. Karoline Ruess in Defiance. Additionally there are 24 grandchildren.
The remains were buried Monday morning in the Lutheran Cemetery on the South Ridge. Pastor F. A. Kiess held the funeral services here in the residence of Mr. Jakob F. Ruess and the German funeral sermon in the St. Stephan's Lutheran Church on the South Ridge, while Pastor M. Lussky held the English sermon and led the service at the grave site.

Anna Martha Drexler
Anna Martha Drexler, wife of Mr. John Drexler Jr. in North Richland and a daughter of Mr. Michael Thieroff and his deceased wife Anna Margarethe from South Richland, died Monday morning about 7 o'clock after an illness of many years. She was born on the 16th of February 1865 and entered into holy matrimony with her mourning widower on the 23rd of November 1893, which was blessed with five daughters. Besides her own family, she is mourned by her aged father, the four brothers J. J., Heinrich G., Adam and Wilhelm Thieroff as well as more distant relatives and a wide circle of friends.
Her remains were buried Wednesday afternoon with a large attendance in the cemetery in Florida. The funeral service was at 1 o'clock in the residence and at 2 o'clock in the Church in Florida. Pastor C. Schröder held the German and Pastor M. Lussky the English burial sermon.
