Isaac Warren
In front of the door of his cottage on the canal south of Defiance on Sunday morning was found the frozen stiff body of the harmless old eccentric Isaac warren. He may have been about 70 years old and was the son of that pioneer Thomas Warren, who according to the best reports came to Defiance in the twenties of the previous century and acquired large tracts of land. The deceased described (?considered) himself to be a prophet, who knew (?understood) how to interpret the Holy script like no other, but was not one to pester the public with his addlepated ideas. His main occupation consisted in, on his little plot of earth, raising up one hill after another and then taking them down. If he had a purpose in it, he kept the secret to himself and it died with him.
Warren has a wife in Portage, O., who for years had lived apart from him. Additionally he had a son in Toledo and a daughter in the aforementioned Portage. The latter he had visited just at the end of the previous week, and on his return Saturday evening had made the comment that he didn't feel well. Apparently he collapsed, dead just before arriving home.
His remains, after Justice of the Peace Costello had served the function of coroner, were taken to Martin's Funeral Parlor for preparation for burial and laid temporarily in the chapel crypt.
