Margaretta B. Slagle, a born Vowell and wife of the retired preacher B. W. Slagle, died last Saturday evening about 9 o'clock after a short illness in the family residence on Wayne Street from pneumonia. She was born on the 15th of January 1836 in Alexandria, Va.., and came with her parents as a 12 year old to Washington, Pa., where her father practiced as a doctor and she graduated first from the primary school and then from the ?Ladies' Seminary. On the 30th of October 1862 she married Pastor B.W. Slagle and then came with him to Defiance, where she had her home until the end of her earthly pilgrimage. She was president of the Women's Home Foreign Mission Society and a member of the Westminster Aid and the Mutual Improvement Circle. With the widower mourn the following children the departure of the faithful wife and mother: Ella, wife of Allen G. Paine in Cleveland, Ohio; Margaretta B., wife of A. M. Minsel from here; Pastor Fred J. Slagle in Glasgow, Scotland; Grace, wife of Forrest Price in Boston, Mass., and Arthur Slagle in Toledo, Ohio. And large is the number of friends, offering deep sympathy to the family stricken by this death.
The burial took place Tuesday afternoon in Riverside Cemetery, after a funeral service was held in the Presbyterian Church. Officiating at this [service] were Pastor C. E. Shields and Pastor J. P. Stockton from West Unity, Ohio, a longtime friend of the Slagle family. Many friends followed the coffin of the well-respected departed to the grave.

Mrs. Dorette Biede
Mrs. Dorette Biede, a born Bohner and widow of the late Carl F. W. Biede died quietly in her sleep on Monday morning after many week illness. She was born on the 19th of August 1824 in the province of Hannover, Germany, and therefore was 86 years, 1 month and 13 days old.
In the year 1848 she wed in Baltimore, Md., with Mr. Carl F. W. Biede, who preceded her in death on the 24th of February 1907. After a short stay in Massillon, Ohio, the now-deceased came in 1852 to Defiance and remained resident here until their departure. Since the death of her husband she has lived with her daughter, Mrs. Louise Heerdegen, on Washington Street. From there on Wednesday afternoon the mortal remains will be buried under the direction of Pastor L. H. Ziemers from the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Riverside Cemetery.
Remaining behind are the aforementioned daughter, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Five sons have preceded their parents into Eternity. We pray the departed have eternal rest.

Peter Dickmann
Peter Dickmann, son of the late Wilhelm Dickmann and sixty year resident in Defiance and the surrounding area, died on Saturday evening about 11 o'clock in his residence on Water Street after an illness of about four weeks. He was born in Wooster, Ohio, on the 4th of March 1841 and came with his parents as an 8 ear old boy to Defiance County. He has lived here ever since and has practiced many occupations, mainly wagon making. The last couple years he occupied himself with agriculture on his farm south of Defiance. In the Civil War from 1861 to 1865 he was a member of Co. E of the 111th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment, also served with the Marines on the Mississippi and received an honorable discharge. Mr. Dickmann was a member of the Grand Army, and the Union Veterans, in which atter organization he held many important offices. About four weeks ago [as] he was at work on his farm he was stung in the neck by an insect. From this wound developed a carbuncle ulceration, which all the medical arts were unable to cure.
Remaining behind are the widow, the son Wallace Dickmann and the daughter Rose Miller of here, the daughter Mrs. Addie Relyea in Westgate, Ia., and Jakob Dickmann in Tiffin Township and the sister Mrs. Isaac Mulligan in Macey, Ind., as well as eight grandchildren. The burial took place Tuesday afternoon from the former residence and the English Methodist Church under the direction of Pastor W. W. Lance in the Riverside Cemetery. The war veterans gave their comrade a funeral cortege to the grave.
Harry [W.] French died on Monday morning of this week about 10 o'clock in the residence of his parents, F. W. French and wife, on the corner of Arabella and Jefferson Streets, after a lengthy illness from tuberculosis of the lung. Harry was born on the 21st of July 1888 in Paulding, Ohio, and had brought his lifetime to 22 years, 6 months and 9 days. Surviving him are the parents, two brothers Clayton and Cecil and sister Kathleen. His father is currently on a business trip in the state of California.
On Wednesday morning the mortal remains were laid temporarily in the Riverside Chapel Crypt, after the Presbyterian preacher Curtis E. Shields had held a funeral service in the family residence.
