Louis W. Gebhardt died about 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon of the week past in the residence of G. W. Snyder in South Richland after a lengthy illness at the age of 20 years, 3 months and 9 days from consumption. His remains were buried Friday morning under the direction of Pastor Yaunt from the English Methodist Church in Florida, in the Church yard (Cemetery) there.

Katharine Meilink
Katharine Meilink, wife of John G. Meilink in Toledo and daughter of our aged fellow citizen J. B. Weisenburger, died Tuesday morning in her residence in Toledo. She was born here in Defiance and lived here up until her marriage. She had brought her life to about 45 years. Surviving her are the widower, three sons, two daughters, the father and four brothers.
The mortal remains were brought back to Defiance on Wednesday evening to the residence of Mr. J. B. Weisenburger and will be buried from the St. Mary's Catholic Church at 9 o'clock Friday morning.

FriedrichThien, son of the late Jürgen Hinrich Thien and his wife Sarah, was found dead in his bunk on the battleship "North Carolina" in Norfolk, Va., on New Year's [Day] morning. He was a smith by trade and had served for about two years in the Marines. He leaves behind his mother, two brothers and six sisters. The deceased was about 24 years old. The family had not received any additional information concerning the sudden death, when this (edition) was set (went to print). On Wednesday the remains arrived here and on the next Thursday afternoon were buried from the mother's residence in East Defiance.

Christian Pfau
Christian Pfau died on the morning of the 2nd of January in his residence in the eastern part of the city, after a lengthy illness, at the age of 51 years, 5 months and 24 days. He was born on the 26th of July 1858 in Freudenstadt, Württemberg and immigrated to this country in the year 1884, where he soon found work for his trade as a tailor in Defiance, and since then has resided here continually.
He leaves behind a widow, a born Wirth, and two brothers in the old Fatherland. On Tuesday afternoon his mortal remains will be buried from the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church under the direction of Pastor F. A. Kiess in the Riverside Cemetery.

Mrs. Ellen Starr
Mrs. Ellen Starr, widow of Samuel Starr and a born McGushin, died Friday evening about 10 o'clock in her residence on Deatrick Street suddenly from a heart ailment at the age of somewhat over 45 years. She leaves behind a son, the sister widow of Daniel Shea of here, Mrs. Elisabeth Riley and Miss Mary McGushin in Chicago, Ill., and the brother John W. McGushin, who resides here. Her remains were buried Monday morning from the English Catholic Church in Riverside Cemetery.

John Clinton Garvey
John Clinton Garvey died Tuesday morning about 2 o'clock in his residence on Nicholas Street from cancer of the face after an illness lasting many months. The deceased had lived here for many years and was a cabinetmaker (joiner, carpenter) by trade. He had taken part in the Civil War, and was a member of the Bishop Post of the Grand Army and had received just recently a pension increase. He had brought his age to about 68 years. Surviving him are his widow, a born Tate, two sons and two daughters. His remains will be buried Thursday afternoon at 1:30 from the former residence under the direction of Pastor McDaniels in the Ayersville Cemetery.

Christian Sauerbrey
Christian Sauerbrey died on Saturday afternoon in his residence in Zanesville, Ohio, after a five month illness as the result of a stroke. He was born on the 19th of March 1862 in Prussia and thus was 48 years old to the day. Immigrating to this country, he worked for a long time in the Defiance Machine Works, later in Oswego, N.Y., and in the last few years in Zanesville, where until his illness he occupied the position of Superintendent of the Brown Elevator Company.
Surviving him is the widow from his second marriage, Anna Sauerbrey, a born Hohenberger and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Johann Hohenberger, from here, to whom he was wed by Pastor B. W. Slagle on 14 July 1894. Also left behind are the daughter Anna E. and sons Carl, Albert and Theodor.
His remains arrived here Tuesday just before noon on the B. & O. Railroad and were buried at once in Riverside Cemetery under the auspices of the Freemasons and under the direction of Pastor B. W. Slagle. His sister-in-law Mrs. O. Finn from South Richland and his brother-in-law Heinrich Hohenberger from here, who had gone to Zanesville Saturday, accompanied the remains with the family to Defiance.
