David Daniel Bauer of Grass Lake, Michigan, died on Friday about 1 o'clock in the afternoon, in the hospital in Ann Arbor, twelve hours after he had gone through a third operation for tuberculosis of the innards. He was born in Coshocton County, Ohio, and had lived for many years on a farm in Noble Township, Defiance County, before he moved with his family to the state of Michigan. His age was 40 years, 2 months and 24 days and remaining behind are a widow with a six year old son, two sisters and four brothers, among them John C. Bauer in Washington Township in our county and David Bauer in Holgate. The remains were brought hither Monday evening to the residence of Mr. Christ. Ruess on Wayne Street and on Tuesday afternoon buried from there and the St. John's Reformed Church under the direction of Pastor N. E. Bitz in the Riverside Cemetery, as the deceased had wished. The pallbearers were the four brothers of the deceased and his cousins Christ. and Wilhelm Ruess.
Miss Stella Forst, daughter of Mr. George Forst and his deceased wife Magdalena, died on last Saturday morning about 4 o'clock in the residence of her father, No. 808 Jackson Street, after a lengthy illness from a lung complaint at the age of 18 years, 9 months and 13 days. she was born in Defiance, received her education in the school of the St. John'd Catholic congregation, and later managed her widowed father's household, until the sickness, which the best care and medical treatment could not cure, forced her to rest. Surviving are her father, two brothers, Father George Forst in Canal Fulton, Ohio, and John Forst of here, as well as two sisters Miss Rose Forst, who is preparing herself at St. Vincent's Hospital in Toledo as a nurse, and Miss Anna Forst in Canal Fulton, Ohio. Besides these, a large group of friends mourn the untimely passing of a young lady beloved in all circles. The burial took place Tuesday morning in Riverside Cemetery, after a requiem high Mass was celebrated in the St. John's Catholic Church. Father Forst acted as celebrant, Father Gloden as deacon, Father Theis as sub-deacon and Father Andlauer as master of ceremonies. The sermon was given by Father Gloden. Acting as pallbearers were Joseph Eck, Fred. Bohlmann, Wayne Seibel, Leo Schlembach, Ahiah Hughes and Joseph Krutsch.
Barbara J. Schaffer, a born Bernhardt and wife of Mr. Karl Schaffer, died on Saturday morning about 1:30 after a siege of illness which has lasted two years, in the family residence at 842 Kintner Street at the age of 67 years, 5 months and 3 days, from a stroke. She was born on the 4th of March 1843 in Dachsen in the Swiss canton of Zurich and came to this country in the year 1882, where she at once settled in Defiance and remained resident here to the end of her life. on the 11th of February 1884 she married Mr. Karl Schaffer, who survives along with their son Bruno H. Schaffer residing in Cleveland. Other near relatives left behind besides are the brother Jakob Bernhardt and the sister widow Emanuel Mettler, both of whom reside here. The mortal remains of the faithful wife and mother were buried Sunday afternoon under the direction of Pastor N. E. Bitz from the former residence in the Riverside Cemetery.

Widow Jean R. Dunn
Widow Jean R. Dunn died Friday evening about 6 o'clock after a lengthy illness in her residence on the upper Jefferson Street at the age of 86 years, 4 months and 1 day. Surviving are one son and three daughters; her husband preceded her in death many years ago. On Monday about noon, her remains were brought from the former residence under the direction of the Presbyterian preacher C. E. Shields to the grave in Riverside Cemetery.

Mable Grace Hill
Mable Grace Hill, wife of C. O. Hill residing in Highland Township died on Christmas Day about 3:30 in the afternoon at the age of 22 years, 9 months and 22 days, from consumption. Her remains were brought to the grave in the Hill Cemetery, after the Baptist preacher A. W. McDaniel had held funeral services in the former residence at 9 o'clock Tuesday morning and at 10 o'clock in the Hill Baptist Church.

Dorothea Bechtold
Dorothea Bechtold, widow of the late Johan Bechtold and for many years resident in Defiance County and here in the city of Defiance, took her leave of this life on Tuesday afternoon in Cleveland, Ohio, where she made her home in Pastor W. H. Bunge's family. As far as we know, she was in her eighties. Her remains will be brought here Thursday for burial; instructions concerning the time of the burial have not been set at this time.
