Francis J. Sheets
Like a bolt out of the blue, the news of the sudden death of Francis J. Sheets in St. Vincent's Hospital in Toledo struck his relatives. All reports had sounded favorable, and they had thought to bring the patient home the next day as healed.
Francis J. Sheets was born in Pennsylvania, and came with his parents as a six year old child to Richland County, Ohio. Grown to a youth, he came to Adams Township and married there about 31 years ago Miss Mary D. Sommer, who survives him with three grown sons John W., Frank M., and George E. Sheets. One child died before the father. Six weeks ago last Thursday, the now deceased was admitted to St. Vincent's Hospital, where a few days later he was operated on for an abscess of the back of the head. At first the outcome seemed doubtful, but apparently his strong nature triumphed, and the almost completely recovered man wanted to return to his family Sunday. Saturday morning he arose as usual, fell ill shortly thereafter, and an hour later was a corpse. A post-mortem investigation, carried out that evening with the permission of the family, showed that an abscess had formed at the crown, under the skull, had ?ruptured, and that was the cause of the sudden death.
The remains were brought Sunday morning to the family home in Adams Township, and buried Monday morning from St. Michael's Catholic Church, with numerous mourners. The loved and honored man had brought his life to 54 years, 5 months and 11 days.
In the name of the survivors, are extended to all the friends for their expressions of love and sympathy, grateful thanks.
In the home of her daughter Mrs. John Jaynes on Seneca Street in East Defiance, on Monday evening about 7:30, Mary Ann Skiver, widow of the late Isaac Skiver, died at the age of 71 years and almost 6 months. She had lived for many years in Highland Township and left behind eight children, 44 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. Her remains were laid to rest in Myers cemetery on Thursday afternoon, after a funeral led by Pastor E. B. Griffith of the United Brethren Church.
