In Highland Township on Wednesday morning, the colored man William Mumford died at 87 years of age. Before the civil war he lived in slavery; shortly after his emancipation he moved to this area and remained resident here until the end of his life. Eight children susrvive him. His remains received Christian burial in the Hill cemetery in Highland Township.

Barbara Drexler
In her home in North Richland, on Thursday evening shortly before 7 o'clock, Barbara Drexler, wife of Mr. Johann Drexler and a born Hochberger, died gently in her sleep from asthma and the infirmities of age. She was born on 27 October 1825 in Dettingen under Teck, Kirchheim district, Wurttemberg, and came to America on 20 February 1854, where she first settled in Niagara Falls. There on 13 April 1861 she entered into state of holy matrimony with Mr. Johann Drexler and experienced with him over 44 years of the joys and sorrows of this life. Their marriage was blessed with three children, who mourn the deceased with her widower. They are Johann and George Drexler, and Mrs. Maria Thieroff, wife of Mr. Heinrich Thieroff. There are eight grandchildren besides.
In the year 1864 she came with her husband to Defiance county. Near to Jewell, they created a beautiful home through hard labor, where at the age of 79 years, 8 months and 9 days she lay down her weary head to rest. As a true Christian woman, she set aside the desire for life to be with her Savior.
The burial took place Saturday afternoon with many mourners, under the direction of Pastor Rothmann, in the Florida Churchyard.

Adam Eis
On Monday evening about 6 o'clock, the 66 year old Adam Eis died in his home on Schultz street from a lung disease. He was born in Germany, but already at an early age lived in this country. He is survived by a widow with two children. The burial took place Wednesday afternoon under the direction of Pastor John P. Gaede from the former home to Riverside cemetery.

Ethel Schelling
On Wednesday morning of this week, Ethel, the five month old daughter of Mr. & Mrs. George Schelling of Adams Township, died of erysipelas. The burial service will be Friday morning at 9 o'clock in the Dunkard Church in Adams Township.

Bruno Kiessner
In the home of his son Johann on Fifth Street, yesterday morning at 5 minutes past 1, Bruno Kiessner died at the age of 73 years, 3 months and 15 days after a severe illness.
He was born on 29 December 1830 in Obersinn in the kingdom of Bavaria, where he remained living until the year 1885. There also in 1855 he married Miss Barbara Bachmann, who presented him with nine children, of whom all except the son Johann have preceded the father into Eternity. Also his wife died here about three years ago. To America, and st once to Defiance, the family came 19 years ago and has remained resident here since. up until a few years ago, Bruno Kiessner was relatively healthy; then the infirmities of age appeared, in the form of dropsy, from which he suffered sorely for a year. He had been bedridden since last Christmas. The deceased leaves behind three grandchildren besides the aforementioned son, as direct descendants.
The burial will take place Friday morning about 9 o'clock from the st. John's Catholic Church. The A.G.D. Sickness Support Society will provide their deceased brother with accompaniment to the grave.
Anna Lipp
Entered into her Lord's joy, on Friday morning about 8 o'clock in the home of her daughter Mrs. Mary Lintz in Delaware Township, was Grandmother Anna Lipp, widow of the late Heinrich Lipp and a born Sutter.
She was born on 4 September 1822 in the swiss canton of Basel. In the beginning of the Forties, she immigrated with her family to this country and settled in Putnam county, Ohio, where sealed the bond [of matrimony] on 19 September 1845 with Heinrich Lipp, whose death on 12 October 1901 released. This marriage was blessed with five daughters and four sons, of whom Heinrich, Jakob and Gottfried Lipp, Mrs. Heinrich Ort, Mrs. Charles Porath and Mrs. Taylor Lintz in this county, as well as Mrs. Wilhelm Art, Jr. in Chicago are still alive. Besides these there are 22 grandchildren as descendants. About 43 years ago, the Lipp family came from Putnam county to Delaware Township and there the now deceased remained resident until the end of her life. In the last three years, as the result of a stroke, she had been almost completely helpless, but she never lacked for true and self-sacrificing care from her children. The duration of her earthly pilgrimage Grandmother Lipp had brought to 82 years, 1 month and 2 days. May she rest in peace!
The burial of the remains took place Monday afternoon, under the direction of Pastor F.E. Lahr, with a large party [of mourners].
