Friedrich Wilhelm Heidepriem
A Sudden Death
Found Saturday (by) Friedrich Heidepriem through an accident.
"By nightfall it can easily be different, than it was early in the morning."
On last Saturday the family of Friedrich Heidepriem experienced this, since at noon the father of the household, Friedrich Wilhelm Heidepriem, sat with his wife at the table, and before the sun had set, he had breathed his last.
His sudden death was caused by a lamentable accident. On the way to his job as a rail-layer for the B. & O. Railroad, just after noon he climbed on a car of a passing train, stepping on the iron step and grabbed the handle with his hand. By Jones coal shed, near the station building for the electric train, Mr. Heidepriem leaned too far out and hit his head against the shed, and with such force, that that he was thrown from the car and fell beneath the wheels of the train, which turned both legs below the knee into a formless mass. The apparently fatally injured one was rushed to the hospital, where Doctors Rigrisch, Huffman and Zeller performed the required amputation. The doctors were hardly done with their work, when the patient took his last breath. His shepherd of souls, Pastor F. A. Kiess, who got to the hospital before the doctors, was able, since he was fully conscious, to console him and pray with him, before he quietly passed away. The remains were taken to the residence at 710 Summit Avenue and on Tuesday afternoon from there and the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church under the direction of Pastor Kiess to the Riverside Cemetery.
Friedrich Wilhelm Heidepriem was born on the 8th of November 1858 in Rathenow in the Province of Brandenburg, where he, grown to a youth (?apprentice), worked on the railroad. In the year 1881 he came to this country and settled, after he had traveled through many Western States, remaining in Defiance and remained here until his death in the service of the Baltimore and 0hio Railroad. On the 24th of July 1884 he married Maria Sophia Schultz, who with their son Friedrich, who works in Toledo and can only get home by Sunday afternoon, survive. Four children preceded the father in death. Additionally surviving are the here resident brother Hermann Heidepriem; the sister Mrs. Auguste Krause died on the 13th of October of this year.
