Hermann W. J. Biede
In Hammond, Ind., where he had lived with his family since September of the past year, at the home of his son-in-law Thomas Bailey, Hermann W. J. Biede, during the night Saturday passed easily from the suffering, which for the last two full decades had made him unable to work and occasionally caused him great pain. He was born on 27 February 1855 here in Defiance as the son of Karl and Dorette Biede. In his younger years he received from private tutors and Concordia college in Ft. Wayne, Ind., a thorough education, and later entered his father's hardware business. On 24 April 1878 he married Miss Louise May, who survives him with the three children, Mrs. Thomas Bailey [Alma], Karl and Hermann Biede. Many years ago appeared hints of a chronic disease, which soon made him incapable of any occupation. In these last years, the once so blooming and full of life man became such a picture of misery that Death was certainly a welcome release. Besides the wife and children, the deceased leaves behind his aged parents and the sister Widow Louise Heerdegen along with many more distant relatives.
The remains arrived Monday evening here at the home of the parent's-in-law, George J. and Maria May, No. 312 Tacoma Avenue and on Tuesday afternoon will be laid to the final rest from there to Riverside cemetery, under the direction of the Lutheran Pastor Walther H. Bunge.
