Monday morning of this week, in her home No. 860 Francis Street, Caroline Pessefall, wife of Anton C. Pessefall, died unexpectedly. She had arisen and was in the process of lighting the oven to prepare breakfast when she was stricken by a heart attack. She rushed into the room where her husband was standing, dropped onto a chair with an outcry, and in a few minutes was a corpse. The rapidly summoned doctor, Dr. J. J. Reynolds, could only confirm that the death was caused by heart disease.
Mrs. Pessefall was born in May 1861 in Adams Township as the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Edward and Elisabeth Hessel [Hoessel], who both preceded her in death. On 8 September 1886 she was married by Father Schönemann [Schoenemann] to Anton C. Pessefall, and the married couple remained four years in Adams Township; since then they have lived here in Defiance. The deceased was a faithful wife and caring mother, who will be sorely missed in the family circle. she leaves behind a widower, three sons and three daughters; the youngest child died four years ago, in sweetest age [?in infancy?]. Further survivors are sister Mrs. Josephine Coressel in Adams township, brother Isidore in California and John and Edward in Napoleon, stepmother Elisabeth Höffel in Paulding County, as well as two half-brothers and two half-sisters.
The funeral will be held Saturday morning at St. Mary's Catholic Church.
