Mrs Phoebe Thieroff, a born Dietsch and daughter of the late Johann W. Dietsch and his also deceased wife Salome, during the night of the preceding Thursday suddenly took leave of this life. She had only on the 9th of June moved from South Richland to Defiance, where her son Walter had found employment, and lived at No. 107 Wayne Street. Wednesday she went to bed apparently healthy, but must have become ill during the night, because about midnight her son heard a racket in the house, and found, on investigation, his mother lying unconscious on the floor. Medical assistance was quickly at hand, but in the meantime the woman had already died. Without a doubt the cause of death was a heart attack, as she had suffered for a long time from occasions of weakness of the heart.
Phoebe Thieroff was born in South Richland on the 14th of March 1867 and had brought her lifetime to 43 years, 3 months and 23 days. On the 20th of November 1890 she was married by Pastor H. Diemer with Karl Thieroff, but on the 1st of October 1897 the marriage was broken by the death of the husband. Of the two children that she had given to her husband, [only] the aforementioned son is still alive. Also left behind are the three sisters Mrs. Georg Wirth and Miss Lena Dietsch in South Richland and Mrs. Katharine Engel in Delaware Township, as well as three brothers Louis, Heinrich and J. Adam Dietsch in south Richland.
The mortal remains were brought Friday evening to South Richland to the residence of Mr. Georg Wirth and Saturday morning buried with a large attendance from St. Stephan's Evangelical Lutheran Church on the South Ridge to the cemetery in Holgate, in the earth next to her husband. Pastor M. Lussky led the funeral procession. Pastor F. A. Kiess held a short memorial service in the former residence here on Friday evening at six o'clock.
