Mrs. Gertrud Hollinshead, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. O. Behne of here and the wife of Dr. M. W. Hollinshead in Hondale, New Mexico, died there Tuesday morning of the previous week. She was born on the 8th of September 1888 in Defiance and remained resident here, until a few years ago a lung complaint made a change in climate necessary. Then she settled in New Mexico and married there shortly thereafter Doctor Hollinshead, who survives her with a young son and daughter. Also left behind are the parents, the sister Miss Alice of here, the brother Henry in the state of Oklahoma, the brother William in Bryan and the brothers Frank and Ernst in Defiance. The deceased was known and respected in wide circles, and also had led, until the lung disease struck her, the the German classes in our city schools. The mortal remains found their last resting place in Hondale. Many friends mourn her death and offer sincere sympathy to her family.

Mrs. Christina Gecowets
Mrs. Christina Gecowets, one of the female pioneers of Defiance County and resident for many years in Washington Township, on last Wednesday morning about 9 o'clock, in great age and sated with life, was taken from this time by death. She had brought her pilgrimage here to 86 years and leaves behind the daughter Mrs. Henry Hammersmith in Defiance Township, in whose residence the death took place, as well as the son George Gecowets in Mark Township. Her mortal remains found a place of rest Friday morning in the Riverside Cemetery, after Father J. P. Gloden had held a funeral service in the St. John's Catholic Church.

Mrs. Mary Harley
Mrs. Mary Harley, widow of the late Christian Harley, whom she married in the year 1882, died on Saturday morning in Chicago in the residence of her daughter Mrs. Mae Miller, with whom she had spent the winter, at the age of 68 years. Besides the aforementioned daughter she leaves behind 7 step-children, of whom A. F. Harley, C. P. Harley, Jay Harley, Mrs. R. T. Whitaker and Miss Nellie Harley reside in Defiance. Her remains were brought Sunday morning to Defiance to the residence of Mr. Whitaker and on Monday afternoon from there buried in the Riverside Cemetery. Pastor P. A. Crow officiated at the funeral ceremony.
Jacob F. Garman died Tuesday afternoon shortly before three o'clock in the family residence in Defiance Township at the age of 83 years, 3 months and 3 days. Born in Pennsylvania, he came to Defiance County in the year 1846 and has resided here ever since. He was twice married, both wives preceding him in death. The deceased belonged among the most respected citizens of Defiance Township and was known and liked in wide circles. He leaves behind only the son David C. Garman in Defiance Township with whom he had his home in the last years of his life.
The burial will take place Thursday morning at 10 o'clock from the former residence to the Riverside Cemetery. Dr. B. W. Slagle and Pastor C. E. shields will officiate.

Albert Goldenetz
Albert Goldenetz died on Monday about noon in his residence on Douglas Street, after he had suffered for many years from tuberculosis. He was born on the 29th of September 1860 in this city, and was therefore only 54 years and 6 days old. He was baptized in the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church and confirmed, and to the same up until his death. in the year 1884 he married Miss Anna Wendt, who with 7 sons and 3 daughters survive; three children died before him. Also left behind are one grandchild and the sister Mrs. Sophia Bohlmann. The deceased had for about the last thirty years run a store on East Hopkins Street with some success, was also an auctioneer and director of the State Bank and member of the A.G.D. Sickness Support Society. He was a good citizen, and many poor men have lost in him a faithful friend and counselor. The funeral service is Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the former residence and from there the burial will take place in the Riverside Cemetery. Pastor F. A. Kiess will officiate.
Joseph Baumann, who for many years resided on the South Ridge, died Saturday shortly after half past five o'clock in the afternoon in Defiance in the residence of his daughter Mrs. Etta Naveau on Columbus Avenue after a lengthy illness at the age of 70 years, 8 months and 5 days. surviving besides the aforementioned daughter are the following children: Clara Baumann in Toledo, Della Baumann in Sandusky, Hermann Baumann in Defiance, Wesley Baumann on the South Ridge and Wm. Baumann in Ayersville. His wife preceded him in death many years ago. The burial took place Tuesday morning from the former residence and the St. John's Reformed Church under the direction of Pastor H. B. Robrocks in the Riverside Cemetery.
