Hermann Münch, since 1876 a citizen of our city, died on Sunday morning in his residence on East Second Street as the result of a cancer disease. The deceased first saw the light of day on the 2nd of December 1850 at Tengendorf, Engen district, Baden, and immigrated as a 16 year old youth to America, where he settled in Toledo and learned the trade of masonry. After the great fire in Chicago he moved to that city and assisted in the rebuilding of the same. Later he worked for a long time in Columbus, Ohio, then returned to Toledo and in the year 1876 settled in Defiance,where he has since worked at his trade. A few years ago, the deceased, in company with his spouse, visited the relatives and friends in the Old Fatherland. He leaves behind the widow, a born Bauer, as well as one son and one daughter. The burial took place Wednesday morning in the Riverside Cemetery, after Father L. Plumann from the St. John's Catholic Church had held a funeral service.

William A. Kettenring
William A. Kettenring, the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Kettenring, died on last Saturday about half past four o'clock in the afternoon at Toledo in Flower Hospital from blood poisoning. The week before last he was injured in a fall, which caused him, on last Thursday to go to the aforementioned hospital; however the advance of the illness could not be halted, as a double break in the arm bones had led to a pernicious blood poisoning (toxemia, septicemia). William A. Kettenring was born 54 years ago in Defiance and had spent his entire lifetime here. Up until a few years ago he was a high officer in the Defiance Machine Works, of which he was a part owner and for whose success he had co-operated for a long time. He leaves behind two sons, the parents, the two brothers Ransom and Charles H. Kettenring and the two sisters Mrs. Charles Hoffman and Mrs. T. T. Ansberry. His wife died a few years ago.
His remains were brought hither Sunday morning to his residence on Jackson Street and on Monday afternoon from there under the auspices of the Freemasons buried in the Riverside Cemetery. Pastor P. A. Crow and Pastor C. E. Shields officiated. The officers and workers of the Defiance Machine Works, the local lodge of the Elks and representatives of the Toledo Consistorium took part in corpore in the funeral procession. Pallbearers were the Mr's W. A. Kehnast, Dr. G. D. Edgar, R. W. Wortman, Carey May, R. T. Whitaker and Frank W. Cheney.

Quimby Peck

Quimby Peck was born in Bucyrus, Crawford County, Ohio, on the 29th of December 1842 and died on the 14th of November 1914 in is residence in Highland Township, Defiance County, at the age of 71 years, 10 months and 15 days. In August of 1862 he answered the call to arms of his Fatherland and enlisted as a member of Company E of the of the Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment, in which he served for three years long. He participated in a few battles, among them the Battle of the Wilderness and also took part in the siege of Vicksburg.
After the war he married Catharine Clugston, who preceded him in death 35 years ago. From this marriage resulted four children, who are all still alive. They are: Alfred and Monroe Peck and Mrs. Samuel Hughes in Highland Township, as well as Mrs. Frank Thompson in Ludlow, Kentucky. Besides the four children there are sixteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In April 1870 Quimby Peck, with his wife and children, traveling in a so-called "Mover"-wagon, settled in Defiance County and occupied the farm in Highland Township, which has been their permanent home. In his early youth Quimby Peck joined the United Brethren Church and remained a faithful member until his death.

Mrs. Josephine Steinberger
Mrs. Josephine Steinberger, a born Young and wife of Mr. Martin W. Steinberger, died on Sunday morning shortly before one o'clock in the family residence No. 424 West High Street after a lengthy illness as the result of a few stroke attacks. She was born on the 12th of December 1860 in Defiance and had spent her almost 57 year lifetime totally in Defiance.
Left behind are the widower, two children from her marriage with him and five step children. The Christian burial of her remains took place Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock under the direction of Father J. A. Lane from the St. Mary's Catholic Church in the Riverside Cemetery.
