Peter Leithäuser, one of the oldest pioneers of this countryside, on Saturday evening in his residence No. 16 College Place, was released by an easy death from the severe pains, which had beset him especially much in the past four months. He was born on the 30th of October 1847 at Steinwenden, Bavaria, and thus had brought the time of his earthly pilgrimage to 71 years, 3 months and 1 day. In the 11th year of his life he came with his parents to this country and with them immediately settled in Adams Township, where up until about six years ago he practiced agriculture, with visible success. Since then he with his surviving spouse have resided here in the city in retirement.
On the 27th of August 1874 he was married in the St. Michael's Catholic Church on The Ridge by Father Blaser with Miss Theresia Blaser, who presented him with twelve children, all of whom are still alive. These are Peter J. in Sherwood, Joseph in Wyoming, Michael D. in Ridgeville Corners, Frank X. of here, Mrs. Marie T. Lenehan in Detroit, Albert D. in Ney, Mrs. Gertrude Mekus in Adams Township, Dr. Daniel J. in Detroit, Mrs. Margarethe E. Batt in Washington Township, John A. in Cleveland, Earl F. with the American Army in France and Leo A., who is at home while on leave from Camp Knox in Kentucky. There are also thirteen grandchildren and the sister Mrs. Katherine Steitle in Brunersburg remaining behind.
The burial took place on Wednesday morning in the graveyard of the St. Michael's Catholic congregation in Adams Township, after a funeral service had been held at 9 o'clock under the direction of Father L. Plumann in the St. John's Catholic Church. We wish our departed friend the eternal rest.
