Josiah McElroy
Josiah McElroy died on the previous Wednesday evening at almost 6 o'clock in his residence No. 933 Francis Street after a lengthy illness from the infirmities of age. He had served in the Civil War as a member of the 24th Iowa Infantry Regiment and attained an age of 80 years. He was twice married; the first spouse he lost through death and he divorced the second. He leaves behind two daughters, who reside in Cleveland and Mansfield, Ohio. His remains were taken Friday afternoon under the auspices of the Bishop Post of the Grand Army to the grave in the Riverside Cemetery. The burial took place from the residence of the Gottfried Frank family, under the direction of Pastor C.E. Shields.
Although Josiah McElroy had been sickly for a long time, his death was still totally unexpected. What he suffered, while he was sitting in a chair in the Frank residence, where he had made his home for the past three years, was a stroke, and fell dead to the floor. The Frank family would like to thank the friends for the beautiful floral arrangements and Pastor shields for the consoling obituary at the coffin of the elderly veteran.
