Charles H. Hunter died on Saturday evening about half past 6 o'clock in his residence No. 124 Summit Street after a very short illness. Friday afternoon about three o'clock in the Subway Restaurant he had a slight stroke attack, from which he had seemed to recover at home, so that on Saturday evening at the aforementioned time, his death occurred completely unexpectedly.
Charles H. Hunter was born on the 8th of November 1851 in Highland Township and was thus 66 years, 2 months and 4 days old. He came in the year 1879 to the city of Defiance and remained here resident until the end of his life. At first he practiced pedagogy and worked at times as a field surveyor and secretary in various offices. Then for many years he was a Justice of the Peace and secretary in the Office of the Recorder and then at the last acted as a money broker. His spouse preceded him in death on the 12th of August 1917. Left behind are the brother James S. Hunter and the sister Mrs. Charlotte Ryan, who both reside here. The deceased was an unassuming fellow who went about his business quietly and regularly and took pains to fulfill his duties as a citizen as precisely as possible. Many friends mourn his death. The burial of his mortal remains will take place Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock under the direction of Pastor W. O. Montague from the former residence in the Riverside Cemetery.

Georg Johann Vogel
Georg Johann Vogel died on Monday afternoon between four and five o'clock in his residence on Jackson Avenue after only a few day illness from a blood poisoning (septicemia). He had recently received a slight wound on the finger from a glass shard and this wound led to his death. Born on the 20h of March 1850 at Rauensbretzingen, Württemberg, he immigrated in 1873 to this country and immediately settled in Defiance, where he remained resident ever since. On the 26th of June 1873 he was wed by the late Pastor G. M. Zucker with Miss Friederike Kraus, who on the 26th of June 1916 preceded him in death. Of the two daughters resulting from this marriage, the daughter residing here at No. 903 Asa Street, Mrs. Katharine Doneyer remains behind. There are also three grandchildren. The deceased had achieved an age of 67 years, 11 months and 12 days. He belonged to the A.G.D. Sickness Support Society and had served his fellow citizens for years faithfully as sidewalk commissioner and sanitation inspector. The burial took place Wednesday afternoon from the residence of his daughter and the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church under the direction of Pastor F. A. Kiess in the Riverside Cemetery. We cannot begrudge our old friend his rest, which he had yearned for so greatly and so often.
