Arthur M. Young, died on Sunday morning in St. Joseph's Hospital in Columbus, O., where he had been admitted about three weeks earlier, at the age of 39 years and 2 months from tuberculosis. He leaves behind the widow, the three brothers Francis, Edward and Bernhardt and the three sisters Mrs. M. W. Steinberger, Mrs. Daniel Leithauser and Mrs. Mary Sims. His father Ephraim Young died just on the 9th of December of this year. His remains were brought hither Monday afternoon to his residence No. 938 Washington Ave. and on Wednesday morning from the St. Mary's Catholic Church buried in the Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Father James A. Lane.

Ludwig Spengler
Ludwig Spengler at about three o'clock on the morning of the Holy Day of the Birth of his savior, to whom he had remained faithful in life and in death, passed from Belief to vision. A wound on the leg allowed gangrene to start and this led to death. Born on the 11th of July 1828 at Werbellin in Prussia, Mr. Spengler learned joinery (carpentry), which he practiced up to a great age. On the 11th of November 1856 he married Miss Henriette Schultz, who gave him thirteen children, of whom with the widow the following eight mourn his death: Mrs. Maria B. Deindorfer, Mrs. Minnie Kahlo, Karl, Julius, Alwin and Miss Lena Spengler of here, Mrs. Anna Hossfeld in Glasford, Ill., and Mrs. Florentina Thomas in St. Mary, O. Also belonging to the descendancy are ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild. On the 12th of November of this year he was able to celebrate the 60th anniversary of his marriage with the entire family.
The deceased had resided in Defiance since 1860 and enjoyed here general respect, and was truly a good citizen, an upright Christian and a gentleman from his shoe soles to the crown of his head. He had brought the time of his pilgrimage here below to 88 years, 5 months and 13 days. The burial took place Wednesday afternoon under the direction of Pastor H. Folsch from the former residence to the Riverside Cemetery.

Ephraim Young
Ephraim Young, who as a three year old boy came with his parents from Pennsylvania to this region and has resided here continually ever since, died on Saturday morning at the age of 80 years in the residence of his daughter Mrs. Daniel Leithauser, No. 920 Washington Avenue. He had settled as a young man in Defiance and worked here until a few years ago as a joiner. Besides the aforementioned daughter, surviving him are the following children: Mrs. M. W. Steinburger, Arthur, Francis and Bernhardt Young in Defiance, Mrs. Mary Sims in Cincinnati and Edward Young in Detroit. Also left behind is the sister-in-law Mrs. J. M. Hengstler, residing here. The spouse of the deceased preceded him into Eternity five years ago.
His remains were buried Monday morning under the direction of Father James A. Lane from the St. Mary's Catholic Church in the Riverside Cemetery.

Jonathan I. Hale
Jonathan I. Hale died Sunday morning in his.residence No. 851 Wayne Avenue at the age of 78 years, 2 months and ?3 days. He hailed from York County, Pennsylvania, and came in the year 1872 to Defiance, to manage the construction of the English Methodist Church. since that time he has resided here and was up until a short time ago active as an architect. He was a veteran of the Civil War, in which he served as a corporal of Co. K of the 4th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment. Left behind are the following children: John and Gale Hale, Mrs. Walter Lambert, Mrs. Charles Andrews and the Misses Eva and Ellen Hale in Defiance, Mrs. William Block in Spokane, Wash., Mrs. Frank Paeffler in Upper Sandusky, O., and Mrs. Victor Dowell in Aurora, Ill. Additionally there are fourteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The spouse preceded Mr. Hale in death on the 20th of June 1904.
His remains were taken Tuesday afternoon under the auspices of the Bishop Post of the Grand Army from the former residence to the grave in the Riverside Cemetery. The Pastors C. O. Crist and W. A. Musgrove officiated.
