After only a few days illness in the night of last Wednesday in her residence on Seaman Street in East Toledo, Mrs. Christine Wacke, wife of the even in Defiance known Lutheran Pastor Wilhelm Wacke, passed from Belief to seeing. She was born on the 18th of July 1856 in Madison, Wisconsin as the daughter of the late Dr. Johannes Deindorfer and his wife Katharine, born Wege. In the middle of the sixties she came with her parents and three siblings to Toledo and in the year 1870 to Defiance. Here she married on the 23rd of August 1877 with Pastor Wilhelm Wacke, who at that time and for four more years thereafter served a congregation in Edon, Ohio. Thirteen years ago the wacke family moved from Edon to East Toledo, where they still reside. Of seven children, to whom Mrs. Christine Wacke has given life, mourning with the widower the death of the beloved wife and mother are the sons Karl, Friedrich, August and Otto and the daughter Anna Wacke. Two of her sons preceded the deceased into eternity, as also both parents and the brothers Karl, Heinrich and Gottfried. Sisters left behind (are) Mrs. Anna Bredow and Mrs. Maria Englebrecht and Miss Lena Deindörfer in Waverly, Iowa, and J. A. Deindörfer of here. There is also one grandchild surviving.
Saturday afternoon, the 14th of June, Mrs. Christine Wacke suffered a stroke attack and from then on remained unconscious with visibly increasing weakness, until on the Tuesday evening following at about 11 o'clock death occurred. she was of a faithful, selfless nature, who was completely absorbed in her duties as wife, mother, and pastor's wife.
Her mortal remains were taken Friday afternoon from the former residence and the neighboring Church to the congregation's cemetery and laid in the grave. From here attending the burial were J. A. Deindorfer with wife and daughter Lillian, Mrs. Maria B. Deindörfer and Mrs. Bessie Deindörfer with her sons Paul and John. In the former residence Pastor Theodor Meier officiated and in the Church Pastor W. P. Dinke, who gave the eulogy in both languages.
Whoever, like the writer of these pages, during his occupation as editor (has lost) three siblings, both parents, his own son and his most faithful friends, it has been bestowed upon, with wounded heart and tearing eyes the need to produce these necrologies, he would learn to value the words of the poet: "Just wait, soon you also will rest!"
