Bennett Smith, who up until about one year ago resided here, died on Monday night of the previous week in his residence in Dustin, Oklahoma, after a short illness at the age of 73 years and 7 months. He had served in the Civil War as a member of Company F of the 48th Ohio Regiment and was at his passing a member of the Bishop Post of the Grand Army here. Surviving him are the widow, two daughters and one son in Oklahoma, the son C. A. Smith of here, the sisters residing here and in the area Mrs. Anna Clemens, Mrs. John Aschbacher and Mrs. Henry Mack and the brother John Smith. His remains were buried in Dustin on Tuesday afternoon of the previous week.

Katharine Henriette Foss
Katharine Henriette Foss, wife of Mr. John George Foss in Highland Township and a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Heinrich Frank in Pleasant Township, Henry County, died on Wednesday evening of the previous week at about half past 6 in Defiance Hospital, after she had undergone an operation to cure peritonitis and remove gallstones. She was only 35 years, 11 months and 9 days old and leaves behind the widower, one son, four daughters, the parents, one brother and four sisters. Her remains were taken Thursday morning to Highland Township in the family residence and on Saturday afternoon under the direction of Pastor Albin Beer from there and the Immanuel's Reformed Church near New Bavaria to the graveyard of the congregation.

Sebastian Arning
Sebastian Arning, a long time resident of our city and a respected citizen, died on Monday evening shortly after 10 o'clock in his residence at 645 Clinton Street at the age of 69 years, 6 months and 5 days. He had worked earlier as a saddle maker, was then employed in the Defiance Machine works and last as a janitor of the city schools. At the same time he was a competent musician and belonged at the time of his passing to the choir of the Elks. He leaves behind the widow and one grown daughter. His remains will be buried on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock under the direction of Pastor W. H. Shepser in the Riverside Cemetery.
The funeral service will be held in the family residence.

John Krumel
John Krumel, one of the pioneers of south Richland, died on last Wednesday morning in his residence there after a lengthy illness. If he had lived to December of the current year, he would have been 70 years old. Whoever knew him, valued him highly; he was both a man of his word and a good citizen, who took all his duties seriously.
Remaining behind are the widow, six sons and four daughters. His remains were taken from the former residence to the grave in the Riverside Cemetery Saturday morning under the direction of Father John A. Merickel.

Mrs. Emilie Link, a daughter of the deceased Mr. Joseph Hiester of South Richland and widow of Frank Link, was found as a corpse on Sunday morning in the family residence in Highland Township. She was 69 years, 4 months and 12 days old and is assumed to have died from a heart complaint. Remaining behind are three sons and two daughters, as well as the brothers Raymond and Adam Hiester and the sisters Miss Kathe Hiester and Mrs. Wm. Derge of here. The burial took place Wednesday morning in the Cemetery in Ayersville.

Mrs. Mary Shinners, wife of Edward Shinners, died on Monday evening shortly after 9 o'clock in the family residence in Tiffin Township at the age of 53 years to the day. She leaves behina the widower and a large number of children. The funeral service over the mortal remains will be held Thursday morning at 9 o'clock in the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Adams Township.

Mrs. Margarethe Frey
Mrs. Margarethe Frey, a born Konzen and wife of Mr. Michael Frey residing at 664 Wayne Street, died on Thursday morning about six o'clock in the family residence from a heart complaint.
Born on the 18th of May 1841 at Trier in Prussia, she came to this country as a 13 year old girl and resided at first with her parents in south Bend, Indiana. There on the 14th of April 1868 she married Michael Frey and shortly thereafter settled down with him on a farm in Mark Township, which was her home up until about 20 years ago. Since then the family has resided on Wayne Street here. Remaining behind are the widower, the daughter Miss Mary E. Frey, the son Jacob Frey, one granddaughter and the two brothers Peter and Jacob Konzen in South Bend. The burial took place Monday morning from the St. Mary's Catholic Church in the Riverside Cemetery. Father James A. Lane officiated, assisted by Father Manning from Lima and Father Brannigan from Toledo. Acting as pallbearers were H. O. Wrede, Anton Kern, P. A. Baker, A. R. Preisendorfer, Fred T. Wolsiffer and Joseph Blanchard.
