Timothy P. Cantlon
Timothy P. Cantlon did not survive the operation for appendicitis which had to be undertaken on him on Monday eight days ago in St. Vincent's Hospital in Toledo. Although things appeared well at first, as though his strong constitution would get him past the great danger, on last Wednesday serious complications arose, and on Saturday morning shortly after seven o'clock the patient took his last breath.
Timothy P. Cantlon was born on the 22nd of May 1860 and thus had brought his age to 53 years, 7 months and 20 days. In his youth he learned the printing trade, to which he remained faithful until his death. With the exception of a short period, which he spent in Chicago, he had always worked in Defiance -- the last few years as the foreman of the book printer Crescent Printing Company. On the 10th of January 1884 he married Miss Mary Weismantel, who with the following six children survives: Mrs. Frank Friedel in Bryan, Leo Cantlon in Erie, Pa., Frank, Edward, Joseph and Nellie Cantlon, of whom the last three still live in the parental residence. Besides these there are also two grandchildren, as well as the brother John J. Cantlon and the sister Mrs. Peter Sonnett.
The deceased was an industrious man in his trade, who never lacked for work. For the last 15 years he had also served as City Secretary, which office he held with care and faithfulness, and to which just this past New Years Day he was again appointed by the City Council. He belonged to the lodge of the Elks, the local branch of the Knights of Columbus, and the National Union; the latter lodge he had served the past five years as president. His mortal remains were brought hither Sunday evening to the family residence No. 420 Harrison Street and on Tuesday morning buried from the St. Mary's Catholic Church to the Riverside Cemetery, under the direction of Father Brannigan.
