We present here a portrait of Mrs. Johanna Friedericke Charlotte Hoffert, wife of Friedrich Hoffert, whose mortal remains were given Christian burial in the Riverside Cemetery on Wednesday afternoon of the previous week. On the breast of the body rested on the right and left two congratulations cards, which she had received at Easter sent from her friends Mrs. Katharine Wahl and Mrs. Anna Schneider which had given her such great joy, that she had repeatedly expressed the wish, that they might be buried with her. And just so has it happened. [see below]
Mrs. Katharine Bauer
Mrs. Katharine Bauer, the widow of the almost ten years dead Peter Bauer and a female pioneer of Pleasant township, Henry county, was there on Wednesday of the previous week in the afternoon shortly before five o'clock in the residence of her daughter Mrs. Kate Clemens at the age of 82 years, taken from this time by death. she was born in the Kingdom of Bavaria and came quite young to this country. To the husband who preceded her in death she presented four children, of whom besides the aforementioned daughter still living is the daughter Margarethe Hess also residing in Pleasant Township. Besides her husband, also her daughter Mrs. John Hohenberger and son Nikolaus Bauer preceded her in death. Her remains were brought to the grave Saturday morning, after Pastor Albin Beer had held a funeral service at 9 o'clock in the former residence and at 10 o'clock in the Reformed Church on the south Ridge.

Johanna Friedericke Charlotte Hoffert
Johanna Friedericke Charlotte Hoffert, a born Borst and the wife of Mr. Friedrich Hoffert, died on Monday morning about 8 o'clock in Toledo in the residence of her daughter Mrs. Jakob Merz, where she had gone ten weeks earlier, after a lengthy siege of illness, from stomach cancer. She was born on the 2nd of October 1844 in Krummbeck, Mecklenburg-Strelitz, where she had been baptized in the Lutheran Church and confirmed. In the year 1871 she married Johann Andreas Friedrich Hoffert. Eleven years later the family came to America and settled in Defiance, where she has been resident ever since. Of the seven children, with whom the marriage was blessed, two died in Germany and two here. Surviving the deceased with the widower are the sons Friedrich in Earlville, Ill., and Karl in Toledo, and the daughter Mrs. Jakob Merz in Toledo. Besides these are also left behind six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Hoffert had brought her lifetime to 69 years, 8 months and 19 days.
Her mortal remains were brought hither Monday evening to the family residence No. 730 Ottawa Avenue and from there Wednesday afternoon buried in the Riverside Cemetery. Pastor H. Schult from the South Ridge officiated.

Miss Frida Wichmann
Miss Frida Wichmann, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Heinrich Wichmann in North Richland, died Friday evening about 7 o'clock in the parental residence. She was born on the 28th of September 1891 in Henry county, thus in her passing the young woman at the age of 22 years, 8 months and 28 days was in the bloom of her life. On the 6th of September 1913 she took ill, and although there was no lack of the best medical treatment and faithful care during the long, fearful months, the vicious illness led eventually to death. With the parents mourning her death are the following siblings: Mrs. Emma Schmunk, Mrs. Maria Franzdorf and Miss Lizzie Wichmann in Defiance; Miss Sophia Wichmann in the parental residence; Heinrich Wichmann in Marion, Ohio; Otto Wichmann near Florida; Friedrich and Theodor Wichmann in the parental residence.
The burial took place Monday afternoon in Florida, after Pastor Theo. Schwankovsky had held a funeral service at 1 o'clock in the former residence and at half past 1 in the St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Florida. Pallbearers were the four brothers and two brothers-in-law of the deceased young woman, and four little girls carried the beautiful floral pieces.
The deeply sorrowing survivors would herewith like to express their sincere thanks to all the friends and neighbors, the choir and Pastor Schwankovsky for the offerings of love, which they had expressed to the dear departed and to the family.
