Karl Schackow, for about forty years an inhabitant of Richland Township, died last Tuesday evening in his residence on the south-east city boundary after a few month long siege of a complicated condition. He was born on the 25th of May 1888 at Werbelin in Prussia and remained there until about the year 1873. Then he immigrated to this country with his wife and his two daughters and settled down on the countryside in South Richland, where he remained resident until his passing and kept himself fed through agriculture and selling milk. In the year 1875 his first wife died. On the 7th of September 1883 he married Miss Anna Guilliam from Paulding County, who presented him with eight children, of whom the following seven are still alive and all have their homes in Defiance: Mrs. Wilhelmine Westrick, Karl Schackow, Sophia Schackow, Fritz and Wilhelm Schackow, Mrs. Katharine Walters and Auguste Schackow.
From his first marriage still living are Mrs. Lizzie Siebold of here and Mrs. Klara Wagner in Toledo. Also there are four grandchildren and one great-grandchild, as well as the half-sister Mrs. Louise Gleisberg, the half-brother Johannes Schackow and the brother Wilhelm Schackow in Kaulsdorf near Berlin. Karl Schackow had brought his lifetime to 76 years, 6 months and 27 days. The burial took place Saturday morning from the former residence to the Riverside Cemetery. Pastor F. A. Kiess officiated.

Friedrich Ludwig Wilhelm Palm
Friedrich Ludwig Wilhelm Palm, one of the oldest German residents of the city of Defiance, died Tuesday afternoon of the previous week about half past four o'clock in his residence No. 839 Wayne Street unexpectedly suddenly from a heart complaint. He was born on the 1st of September 1839 in Mecklenburg Schwerin and came to America at the age of 28 years. He settled at once in Defiance and remained resident there, until he passed away at the age of 75 years, 3 months and 22 days. Shortly after his arrival in Defiance he married Miss Sophia Schultz, who gave him nine children. Of these with the widow still living (are): Mrs. Peter Memmer and Mrs. Myrtle Linebrink of here; Mrs. Minna Frantz in Villa Park, Ill.; Mrs. Klara Straight, Mrs. Bertha Kaufmann, John Palm and Edward Palm in Cleveland. Also there are ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The deceased was a joiner by trade and was active in his trade up until a few years ago. Along with the family, a large circle of friends and relatives mourn his death. His remains were taken to the grave in Riverside Cemetery Sunday afternoon, after Pastor F. A. Kiess had held funeral services at half past one in the former residence and a half hour later in the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. The pallbearers were Jakob Schneider, August Wahl, W. H. Brecheisen, Nelson G. Woodward, Grant Root and C. J. Miller.
Mrs. Pauline Richholt, a born König and widow of the late John M. Richholt, died on Saturday morning about four o'clock in her residence No. 843 Wayne Street at the age of 69 years after a lengthy illness. She was born in Germany but came as a girl with her parents to Defiance, where she then remained resident. Her husband preceded her in death many years ago. surviving her are the following children: J. A. Richholt and C. W. Richholt in Wichita Falls, Texas; Mrs. Corwin Tillman in Rogers, Arkansas; H. E. Richholt and Miss Emma Richholt in Defiance. Also left behind are the brother A. W. King residing here and the sister Mrs. Emilie Otterbach in Bays, Ohio. The burial took place Sunday afternoon at half past four o'clock under the direction of Pastor C. E. Shields from the former residence in the Riverside Cemetery. Pallbearers were the Mr's J. J. Hale, Grant Root, George H. Dicus, A. B. Davis, Syl. Garver and Henry Röhrs.
Mrs. Sophia Kirchner, born Biederstedt and wife of H. W. Kirchner, on Saturday morning in her residence in Fremont, Ohio, through an easy death found release from a years-long and occasionally very painful illness. She was born on the 15th of July 1861 in Defiance as the daughter of the married couple Heinrich and Sophia Biederstedt. She spent her youth in Defiance and lived here for a long time after her marriage with H. W. Kirchner. Later the family settled in Fremont, remaining resident there. The deceased had to drain the cup of suffering to the dregs, so we cannot begrudge her the eternal rest. Left behind are the widower, the daughters Ida and Minnie, the son Raymond, as well as the sisters Ida and Agnes Biederstedt in Bowling Green, Ohio. The mortal remains were brought hither to the residence of the nephew J. H. Hohenberger and Tuesday morning from there and the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church under the direction of Pastor W. H. Shepser to the Riverside Cemetery. At the burial service officiated Pastor Treffel from Fremont, the deceased's long-time pastor. (shepherd of souls) The German womens' Sickness Support Society, to which Mrs. Kirchner had remained faithful in the thirteen years since her move from Defiance, accompanied her coffin in stately numbers to the grave. The pallbearers were Peter F. Seibel, Carl Harmening, Hermann Wrede, John G. Martin, John C. Krieger and Georg P. Wohn.
