Godfrey M. Watkins died Thursday evening at about half past five on the veranda of his house No. 817 Jefferson Avenue an unexpectedly sudden death. All things considered, he had been ailing for a few years and on the previous evening had a bad attack, and his family called in a doctor. But on Thursday he went about his business in his accustomed manner. But shortly after five o'clock in the evening he was stricken by a severe attack of shortness of breath. He was led to the veranda and a doctor was summoned as quickly as possible, but after the passage of a few minutes, death occurred.
Godfrey M. Watkins was born on the 17th of September 1858 near Findlay in Hancock County and about 26 years ago settled down in Defiance, where was active mainly as a real estate and insurance agent. On the 1st of March 1893 he married Miss Nellie Henriette Kehnast, who with the foster daughter Alice survives him. Also remaining behind is the brother George Watkins in Toledo. The deceased belonged to the order of the Knights Templar, the Maccabees and the Yeomen. His remains were buried Sunday afternoon under the auspices of the Knights Templar from the former residence in the Riverside Cemetery. Dr. E. O. Crist from the English Methodist congregation led the funeral service.
Amelia Mary Labey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Labey, died on Saturday evening in the family residence No. 501 Fort Street from a lung complaint at the age of 22 years, 6 months and 7 days. Her mortal remains were buried Wednesday morning under the direction of Father G. H. Lang from the St. John's Catholic Church in the Riverside Cemetery.

Mrs. Ottilie Miller
Mrs. Ottilie Miller, a born Ehmann and spouse of Mr. Ludwig Miller, whom she married on the 20th of July 1870 in the old Fatherland, died on Friday morning about 4 o'clock in her residence on Preston Avenue at the age of 68 years, 6 months and 22 days. She hailed from Hesse-Darmstadt and on the 16th of October 1876 came with her family to Defiance, where she has lived ever since. Remaining behind are the spouse, the children Joseph Miller and Mrs. Anna Wilson of here, Carl Miller in Toledo and Frank Miller, who lost an arm in the world war and since missing in France, as well as 10 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and the sister Mrs. Joseph Keller in Defiance Township. For 35 years Mrs. Miller was unable to stand on her feet, and for 25 years was bedridden. During this entire time she was faithfully cared for by her daughter. The burial took place Monday afternoon from the former residence under the direction of Pastor F. A. Kiess in the Riverside Cemetery.
