Johann Friedrich Dreher had, when our report of his serious illness was brought to the attention of our readers, already passed from Belief to vision. He died on Tuesday of the previous week in his residence in Toledo after a short, but extremely painful illness from erysipelas, to which were added (complications from) pneumonia and blood poisoning, at the age of 71 years and 11 months.
He was born on the 28th of January 1846 in the Sulz district, Württemberg. There on the 26th of September 1872 he entered into matrimony with Miss Maria Kipp, with whom he immigrated to this country in 1881 and settled down in Defiance. He made his home here until May of this year, when he moved to Toledo. Of his nine children, surviving him with the widow are the daughter Mrs. Marie Wieland near Holgate, as well as the sons Friedrich and Wilhelm and the daughter Lena in Toledo. Also his descendants include 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. His remains were brought to Defiance on Friday morning on the Wabash Railroad and after a funeral service in the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church under the direction of Pastor F. A. Kiess, buried in the Riverside Cemetery. The deceased was a simple, honest, upright fellow, to whom many friends along with us wish eternal rest.

Johann Ruhle
Johann Ruhle died on Thursday morning about five o'clock in his residence on Ottawa Avenue unexpectedly suddenly from a heart complaint, which had indeed, as he often complained to us, already caused him many unquiet hours. Born on the 14th of January 1851 in Dachsen in the Swiss Canton of Schaffhausen, he resided up until the year 1884 in the land of his forebears, where in 1872 he was wed with Miss Barbara Suter. After his immigration he resided for a total of eight years in Evansport, Archbold and Wauseon, and in 1892 settled down permanently in Defiance. Here he occupied himself for years with visible success with the fabrication of chemical fertilizer and at the same time practiced agriculture. His first spouse died on the 5th of February 1906; in the second year thereafter he married the widow Maria Winkler, who survives him. Also remaining behind are the sons Ernst, John, Otto, Alfred and Arthur, one grandchild, the stepchildren Albert, Dolph, Charles, Fred., William, Lena and Elsie Winkler, Mrs. Bertha Snyder and Mrs. Lucy Ruhle.
The deceased was known and respected as a competent businessman throughout all of Northwest Ohio (and) possessing many friends. His burial occurred on Saturday afternoon under the direction of Pastor H. B. Robrock from the former residence to the Riverside Cemetery.
