Mrs. Mary Crethers-Foust, wife of Mr. John A. Foust, was called from this life on Saturday morning in the family residence at 523 Washington Avenue after a lengthy illness at the age of 66 years, 7 months and 2 days. She came with her spouse many years ago from Hicksville to Defiance and resided here ever since, where she enjoyed a very large circle of acquaintances. Remaining behind are the widower, the daughter Mrs. A. M. Kruse residing here and the son Fred. Foust in Lima. The burial took place Tuesday afternoon at 9 o'clock from the former residence in the Riverside Cemetery under the direction of the Presbyterian preachers David H. Johnson and B. W. Slagle.
Mrs. Maria Miller, a born Burkhardt from Asperg, Ludwigsburg district, Wuerttemberg, died Friday noon in the residence of her daughter Mrs. Siegfried Murbach near Continental, Ohio, a sudden death from a heart attack. She had come to this country on a visit in the fall of the year 1913, and then, because of the outbreak of the war in the meantime, had to remain here. She leaves behind six children; of these two reside in Pennsylvania, one in Montana, the sons Friedrich and Eugene here and the daughter Mrs. Siegfried Murbach near Continental. Also remaining behind are eight grandchildren. The spouse Louis Miller, with whom she was married in Asperg in the year 1874, preceded her in death in the year 1898. Mrs. Miller had brought her age to 65 years less three months. The burial took place Sunday afternoon from the former residence under the direction of Pastor Heinrich Maag.

Anelia Myers
Anelia Myers died on Thursday morning about 11 o'clock in Defiance Hospital, where on the previous Saturday morning a difficult operation had been performed on her. She was 48 years, 2 months and 18 days old and leaves behind two brothers and three sisters, among them Mrs. Mary Schaffer and Miss Ida Myers of here. Her remains were brought to the residence of Mr. George J. Schaffer on Harrison Avenue and on Saturday afternoon buried from there in the Riverside Cemetery. Pastor T. J. Erler officiated.
William Buchholz died on Thursday morning about seven o'clock after an illness of several months in his residence on East Hopkins Street from tracheal tuberculosis at the age of 40 years and 21 days. He was born in Defiance and resided here his entire life. He leaves behind the widowed mother, and the three brothers Thomas, Frank and August. The deceased belonged to the Eagles, the Redmen, the Turnbull (Sickness) Support Society and the city fire department.
The burial took place on Saturday morning at 9 o'clock from the St. Mary's Catholic Church under the direction of Father J. A. Merickel in the Riverside Cemetery. Acting as pallbearers were Frank Schutz, John Baum, Fred. Jäger, Jacob D. Abele and W. Otto Meyer. Flower bearers were members of the local Lodge of the Eagles.

Mrs. Mary Elisabeth Steffel
Mrs. Mary Elisabeth Steffel, a born Moser and wife of Mr. Joseph Steffel, died on Friday morning about half past one here in the family residence at 1018 Holgate Avenue without any previous illness at the age of 57 years, 2 months and 1 day. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Moser in Adams Township and resided until a few years ago in that countryside. Remaining behind are the widower, the children Mrs. Edward M. Kehnast, George, Albert and victor Steffel; as well as the very aged father and the following siblings: Mrs. Theresia Grimm, Mrs. Kate Mekus, Mrs. Rose Steffel, Mrs. Ella Steffel, Mrs. Clara Masanz, John, George, Peter, Frank and Jacob Moser.
The burial took place Monday morning from the St. John's Catholic Church in the graveyard of the St. Michael's congregation in Adams Township. Pallbearers were the following six nephews of the deceased: Clement, Sylvester and Ralph Moser, George, Lawrence and Sylvester Grimm. Father L. Plumann officiated at the interment.
