Henry Rehm died on Sunday about eleven o'clock in the morning in his residence in Jewell after a lengthy illness at the age of 67 years, 2 months and 12 days. Born on the 17th of February 1848 in the Kingdom of Württemberg, he came as a 9 year old boy to this country and settled in this region, where he has remained resident ever since. He took part in the Civil War and contracted during his service a stomach and abdominal complaint, which eventually, as an autopsy of the body showed, had developed into cancer. Surviving the deceased are the three children Mrs. John B. Minsel, Jr., Miss Amelia Rehm and Earl Rehm; the spouse preceded him in death. The burial took place Wednesday morning in the graveyard in Florida, after Pastor W. H. Shepser from the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church here had held a funeral service in the former residence and in the Methodist Church in Florida.

William S. Ashton, a long time resident of Defiance County, died Shortly after ten o'clock on Monday morning of the previous week in his residence in Ayersvllle. He was born on the 27th of May 1847 and was thus almost 68 years old. With the widow mourning his death are a few grown children. The burial took place Friday morning under the direction of Pastor D. E. Miller from the Baptist Church in Highland Township to the Hill Cemetery. Edmond R. Mallett
Edmond R. Mallett, hailing from England, a veteran of the Civil War and for many years a citizen of our city, died on Monday morning about 1 o'clock at the age of 75 years, 2 months and 23 days in his residence No. 609 Wayne Street. Shortly before noon on Friday he fell on an icy sidewalk, but was able to reach his residence, although he was unable to talk and appeared to be confused. Saturday and Sunday his condition worsened visibly and on Monday morning death occurred. in the opinion of a specialist summoned for consultation, the cause of death was probably a palsy, stemming from the fall. The deceased leaves behind the widow and two daughters, Mrs. Alta M. McClary and Miss Sadie Mallett. His remains were buried Wednesday afternoon under the auspices of the Grand Army and the Freemasons and under the direction of Pastor P. A. Crow from the English Methodist Church. The pallbearers were R. W. Wortman, C. J. Morse, Virgil Squire, Wm. A. Kehnast, John A. Foust and G. H. Dicus.

Iva Marie Kelly
Iva Marie Kelly, a born Morris and wife of Thomas P. Kelly, died on Friday afternoon at almost 4 o'clock in her residence No. 1115 Emery Street at the age of 23 years and almost one month. She leaves behind the spouse, whom she married on the 14th of August 1913, two children, the parents and a few siblings. Her remains were buried Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock from the former residence in the Riverside Cemetery. The Baptist preacher D. G. Miller officiated.

Joseph Scherer
Joseph Scherer, born on the 19th of March 1859 in Mittelsinn, Bavaria, and since the 24th of June 1882 resident in Defiance, died on Tuesday evening about 7 o'clock in the residence of Mrs. Cäcilie Walz, where he had his residence since Spring 1883, from consumption. He had only been ill since the middle of December. From the 8th of March 1883 until then he had worked at the Turnbull Wagonworks. He was unmarried; left behind are the brother Johannes Scherer and the Sister Mrs. Katharine Hopkins of here, two half-sisters in Germany, the two nephews Joseph and Edward Scherer and the niece Mrs. Cäcilie Schindler. The burial Will take place Friday morning at 9 o'clock from the St. John's Catholic Church -- on his birth- and name-day. Burial in Riverside (Cemetery).

Mrs. Julie Schatz
Mrs. Julie Schatz, daughter of the late Johann and Dorothea Riek and wife of Mr. Johann Schatz, died Sunday evening about a quarter to nine o'clock in the family residence in Defiance township. On Friday evening still the sturdy German housewife sat apparently hale and hearty with the family at supper; a few hours later she complained about the cold, and in the course of the next days developed a brain and lung inflammation which already on Sunday evening led to her passing.
She was born on the 15th of May 1863, and thus had brought her pilgrimage on Earth to 51 years and 10 months. On the 9th of October 1888 she was wed by Pastor G. M. Zucker with Mr. Johann Schatz, to whom she gave two children, who with him mourn her death. They are Arthur J. Schatz and Klara, spouse of Durward N. Karr. The deceased was generally beloved and respected and will be especially missed in the "Harmonia" Women's Soclety. The burial took place Wednesday afternoon in the Riverside Cemetery, after Pastor F. A. Kiess had held a funeral service at 1 o'clock in the former residence and at 2 o'clock in the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Many mourning relatives and friends followed the casket to the grave.
