She was born on the 12th of February 1846 at Altmühl, in the County of Stolp, Pomerania, and had brought her much-traveled lifetime to 69 years, 1 month and 16 days. On the 30th of April 1869 in the Church at Stojenthin, Pomerania she was married to the mason Wilhelm Flöhr. In the year 1884 she settled with the spouse and the two sons in Defiance and completed then here her earthly pilgrimage. Already in the year 1899 she began to take ill; by the middle of August in the year 1913 she was stricken by a stroke, which paralyzed her entire right side and robbed her of speech, which she later recovered. In all other respects, the results of the stroke attack remained and led to her death.
The deceased leaves behind the widower, the two sons residing here, Hubert and Leo Flöhr, two brothers in Chicago, two brothers in Germany and ten grandchildren. A daughter in her childhood preceded her in death. Her mortal remains were buried Sunday afternoon at three o'clock under the direction of Pastor F. A. Caroline Degen
Caroline Degen, daughter of the couple Christoph and Anna Dürk and wife of Mr. Ernst Degen in Richmond, Virginia, took leave of this life on Ascension Thursday in the hospital in Richmond. On the 27th of April of this year she bore an infant daughter and three days later had to be admitted to the hospital. On Monday of last week her mother rushed to her Sickroom. In the next few days she seemed to be improving, as was implied in a letter received on Wednesday by her father Christoph Dürk. But on Thursday morning as he was on his way to Church he was handed two telegrams one after the other, the first summoning him to her deathbed, the second announcing that death had already occurred. She had died in the morning hours in severe pain.
Caroline Dürk-Degen was born on the 2nd of October 1891 in Defiance and baptized and confirmed in the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church here. On the 30th of December 1913 she entered into matrimony with Mr. Ernst Degen and settled with him after the wedding in Richmond, Virginia. Surviving her are the spouse, the infant daughter, the parents, the sister Mrs. Bertha Lantow in Tiffin Township, the brothers Martin, Hermann, Christoph, Otto and Erich in Defiance, Edwin and Albert in Cleveland.
Her mortal remains were brought hither Friday morning to the parental residence No. 809 Jefferson Street, which she had left at New Year's 1914 as a happy bride, and on Saturday afternoon buried in the Riverside Cemetery. The funeral service took place under the leadership of Pastor F. A. Kiess at half past one in the residence and at two o'clock in the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. The six brothers acted as pallbearers and the many precious floral arrangements were carried by the Misses Eva Wertmiller, Dora Rieckhoff, Helen Ruess and Alma Kiess and the Mr's Otto Pracht, Martin Zachrich, Wilhelm Schackow and Raymond Wohn.
The deceased leaves behind here a large circle of sorrowing friends and was also in Gerolsheim, Germany, the birth city of her father, not unknown, as she had spent a few months there with him in the Winter of 1904-1905. Her infant daughter that she left behind will be lovingly taken in by her grandparents.
