B. F. Rhynard, a former resident of our city, died on Monday in Danyille, Ill., in the residence of his daughter at the age of 45 years, from tuberculosis. He leaves behind two married daughters and one son; his wife, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Georg Wilsberg, had already died a number of years ago. The remains were brought hither Tuesday to the residence of George Dudley on the North side, and on Wednesday morning (taken) from the Baptist Church interred in the Riverside cemetery.

Alice E. Sturgis
Alice E. Sturgis died on Sunday shortly before 11 o'clock in the parsonage of the Episcopal congregation, No. 308 Second Street, after a lengthy siege from a complicated illness at the age of 59 years, 8 months and 15 days. She was unmarried and leaves behind only the one sister Miss Fanny Sturgis who also lives in Defiance. Another sister, the widow of the Episcopal preacher, May, preceded her in death a few years ago. The burial took place Tuesday afternoon under the direction of Rector Wicks from the former residence to the Riverside Cemetery.

William Hopkins Hooker
William Hopkins Hooker died Monday afternoon, after having been bedridden since the preceding November, in the state Hospital in Toledo. He was born on the 9th of August 1868 in Milwaukee, but came as a boy to Defiance and remained resident here, until as the result of over-exertion and sunstroke he fell insane. His mother, one sister and one brother died before him. Left behind is only the aged father E. P. Hooker of here and the sister Mrs. C. F. Ferguson in Flint, Mich. The remains were brought to Defiance Tuesday evening to the family residence on Jefferson Street and will be buried on Thursday morning at 10 o'clock under the auspices the Free Masons from the Presbyterian Church in the Riverside Cemetery.

Joseph LaFave
Joseph LaFave, who had been ill for a long time from rheumatism and a complicated illness, on Friday morning about 7 o'clock in the Hotel Cunningham, where he had his home, at the age of 59 years and 18 days, died suddenly from a stroke attack. He originated from Canada into the state of Vermont and had resided in Defiance for about twelve years. He was the inventor of the rifle which has been produced for a time here in the plant of the American Steel Package company by the LaFave Arms company, and of the steel barrels which production has begun a few months ago in Napoleon. Left behind are a number of grown children. The remains were sent Saturday morning to Hammond, Ind., for burial.
Johann Schäufele
Johann Schäufele, a son of the married couple Friedrich and Katharine Schäufele, died on Friday about noon in the parental residence No. 1137 Wayne Street of Nerve fever (?typhus). From Toledo, where he had gone to follow his occupation of mason, and where he had contracted the evil disease, Johann returned hither to his parents' house about five weeks ago. He did not want for appropriate medical treatment and good care, but the disease didn't weaken and eventually brought the patient to death. Johann Schäufele was born here on the 13th of April 1885 and was 28 years, 3 months and 28 days old. Surviving are his parents, the brothers Philipp, Wilhelm and Karl and the sisters Helene, Sophia, Mildred, Elisabeth and Mabel. He was an honest and industrious worker and a youth of good life habits, who will be sorely missed by his (family).
His remains were buried Sunday afternoon in the Riverside Cemetery, after Pastor F. A. Kiess had held funeral services at two o'clock in the former residence and at half past two in the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. The pallbearers were Wilhelm Palm, George Miller, Grover Hale, Karl Fessel, Hugo Pracht and Martin Dürk; the flower bearers were Hermann Rahmel, Hermann Oehlke and Arthur Pickering.
To all the friends together, who have in any wise assisted the family, in their name herewith are heartfelt thanks offered.

Mrs. Sarah Mangas
Mrs. Sarah Mangas died on Monday evening about 6 o'clock after a short illness in her residence No. 732 Francis Street at the age of 78 years. she was born in Elsass and came young to this country. In Florida she married Peter Mangas, who on the 19th of December 1911 here preceded her in death. Left behind are the following eight sons: George and Fred. Mangas in Toledo, Henry in Corvallis. Oregon, James Mangas in Holgate, Peter and Frank Mangas near Leipsic, O., Albert J. Mangas of here and Andrew Mangas in the countryside. Additional descendants include 25 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. The burial will take place on Thursday morning at 9 o'clock from the St. Mary's catholic Church to the Riverside cemetery. Father Brannigan will officiate.
