Eva Elisabeth Throm, widow of Johann Throm who died in the year 1895 and a born Heer, died last Thursday in the residence of her daughter Mrs. Wesley Geisler after a few year illness from a heart attack at the age of 64 years, 9 months and 13 days. She was born at Heilige Kreuz (Holy Cross), Weinheim district, Baden, Germany, in the year 1875. She married Johann Throm and the family immigrated in 1883 to this country, where after a short stay in Toledo, (they) settled in the viclnity of Holgate in Henry County, where she remained resident. Five children and the spouse preceded the deceased in death; the surviving children are Mrs. Marion Geisler, Mrs. Wesley Geisler, Henry and John Thromin Henry County and Mrs. W. P. Daring in Toledo. Also left behind are 11 grandchildren, 1 brother and 4 sisters, the latter still living in Germany.

Mrs. Frances Bittner
Mrs. Frances Bittner, widow of the late Henry Bittner died last Thursday morning about half past three in Lima, Ohio, in the residence of her daughter Mrs. J. D. Leonard from cancer. She was born on the 8th of May 1839 in Havre, France and came in her eighth year of life with her parents to America. She settled in Defiance in the year 1859 and married in the following year Mr. Henry Bittner, who worked for many years as a Shoemaker and later as a shoe merchant in that building, in which now Mr. Ed. G. Kina's clothing store is located. From this marriage resulted nine children, of whom four preceded the parents into eternity. The surviving children are: Mrs. Bernhard Hoerstmann and Mrs. John Jacobs in Mishawaka, Ind., John P. Bittner in Chicago, Mrs. Catherine Ellis and Mrs. J. D. Leonard in Lima, Ohio. Additionally there are 19 grandchildren remaining behind, as well as the two sisters Mrs. Katharine Hetz in Delphos, Ohio, and Mrs. Maria Schierloh in Ottawa, Ohio. The spouse preceded the now deceased in death on the 21st of April 1884 here, where the family resided at the time.
The funeral took place Saturday morning at half past eight o'clock under the direction of Father Henry A. Hoerstmann of Lowell, Ind., who is a grandson of the deceased, in the St. Rose Catholic Church in Lima. Thereafter the remains were brought on the Ohio Electric to Defiance and under the direction of Father G. A. Brannigan committed to the earth in the Riverside Cemetery next to the spouse and the four children.

Wilhelm A. Härtel
Wilhelm A. Härtel died on last Thursday evening shortly before 10 o'clock in the residence of his brother-in-law Leonhard Wilsberg, No. 623 East Hopkins Street, after a lengthy illness at the age of 46 years, 9 months and 22 days. He had undergone a few operations in the last years, which had unfortunately not brought him the desired cure. He was born on the 5th of April 1868 in Germany and came as an eight year old boy to this country. He had made his home alternatively in Napoleon, Detroit and in the state of California. From the last state he arrived eight weeks ago severely ill here to his sister Mrs. Leonhard Wilsberg, where on Thursday evening death brought him relief from all misery. Surviving him are the widow Laura, a born Gordon, whom he married on the 21st of March 1893, and the four sisters Mrs. Leonhard Wilsberg of here, Mrs. George Stang in Ft. Wayne, the Mrs's Pauline Zenz and Hermann Glanz in Napoleon. All attended the burial, which took place Sunday afternoon under the direction of Pastor C. W. Helwig from the former residence in the Riverside Cemetery. Pallbearers were Wm. Bernicke, Wm. Glanz, Wm. Zenz, August Zenz, John. Finn and Hermann Glanz.
Mrs. Sophie Kalk, born Schmunk and wife of Mr. August Kalk, died Friday evening about 10 o'clock in the family residence in South Richland after an extremely painful illness. At the beginning of November she suffered a stroke attack, which repeated on the Sunday before New Year, and finally took a fatal course.
She was born on the 7th of April 1862 in Hessen-Darmstadt as the daughter of the (married) couple Peter and Margarethe Schmunk and had brought her earthly life to 52 years, 9 months and 22 days. in the year 1882 she immigrated with her brother Philipp to this country, where the father already resided and where the remainder of the family later followed. Until her marriage on the 14th of October 1898 with Mr. August Kalk the now deceased resided in Defiance, but then moved with her spouse to a farm near Antwerp, and about four years ago to South Richland. Left behind are the spouse August Kalk, the father Peter Schmunk and the brothers Peter and Johann Schmunk near Antwerp, the brothers residing here Philipp and Louis Schmunk and two stepdaughters. The survivors have cause for great sorrow, and we offer them sincere sympathy in their bitter loss.
The burial took place Monday afternoon under the direction of Pastor C. Schröder from the former residence and the St. Stephan's Evangelical Lutheran Church on the South Ridge in the congregation's graveyard.
