Dr. M. B. Stevens, died on Thursday afternoon at almost half past two o'clock after a lengthy illness in his residence on the corner of Fifth Street and Wayne Avenue at the age of 71 years, 7 months and 5 days. He was born in the state of New York and spent his childhood and youth there, and served as a member of Co. L of the 10th New York Artillery Regiment in the Civil War. Many years ago he settled in Defiance as a doctor, and went about his profession until he became seriously ill. Surviving him are the widow and three sons. His remains were buried Sunday afternoon from the Baptist Church under the direction of Pastor Theodore G. Erlers in the Riverside Cemetery. The comrades of the deceased from the Grand Army accompanied him to the grave.

Mary Lydia Coy
Mary Lydia Coy, a born Pickard and wife of Mr. Daniel Coy, died on Friday morning about one o'clock in the family residence on Wayne street. She was born on the 4th of August 1861 in Toledo and came as a young woman with her parents hither, where on the 12th of October 1885 she married Mr. Daniel Coy. Up until just over a year ago she enjoyed good health, but then a complicated condition arose, which stubbornly withstood the best medical treatment and most faithful care. She had spent almost a year in a private sanitarium in Marion, O., from which she had returned just a couple of weeks ago, in hopeless condition. She leaves behind the spouse and the following five children: Mrs. Guy Kirtley, the Misses Lydia and Catherine Coy, Glenn and Daniel Russell Coy. The burial took place Sunday afternoon from the former residence in the Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Pastor E. O. Crist.

Mrs. Karoline March
Mrs. Karoline March, wife of Mr. Hermann March, died on Saturday morning about half past three o'clock in the family residence in Highland Township. She was a born Baker, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Baker in North Richland, and had brought her life to 53 years, 1 month and 21 days. Surviving her are the widower, whom she married on the 23rd of December 1890, three sons and three daughters. Her remains were buried Monday morning in the Independence Cemetery, after a funeral service had been held by Pastor H. B. Robrock at 9 o'clock in the former residence and by Pastor N. E. Bitz from Sherwood at 10 o'clock in the St. John's Reformed Church. The surviving children are Mrs. Edward Kunesch, Elva, Lavina, Earl, Leland and Verna March. Of ten children, Mrs. March is the first to be called away by death.
The pallbearers were Adam Henrich, Nicholas Diamond, Frank McAdams, Jakob Steingass, William Madder and Edward Yetter.

Samuel A. Maxwell
Samuel A. Maxwell died Saturday morning at about half past five o'clock in his residence on Clinton Street from a stroke attack, which he had suffered in the night of the previous Tuesday. Born on the 23rd of February 1844 in Fredericksburg, Ohio, he came as a four-year-old boy to Defiance County and had spent the rest of his life here -- part in Hicksville, part in the city of Defiance. From 1894 until 1898 he was the County recorder, then moyed back to Hicksville and returned in 1904 to Defiance, remaining resident here until the end of his life. The last years of his life he became totally blind as the result of an eye complaint. surviving him are the widow, whom he married on the 5th of July 1867, with the following children: Mrs. E. D. Hilbert in Hicksville; Mrs. Dey Ayers, Claude E. Maxwell, Mrs. F. A. Weisenburger and Mrs. Harry Schlosser in Defiance; Clyde M. and Carl O. Maxwell in Cleveland; W. R. Maxwell in Akron; Allen G. Maxwell in Toledo. Also left behind are two sisters and one brother. His remains were buried Monday afternoon from the Presbyterian Church in the Riverside Cemetery. Pastor C. E. Shields officiated. All the offices in the town hall were closed during the burial. Pallbearers were Wm. Gilson, W. A. Snider, Roger Daoust, S. A. Hull, Earl Smith and Newt. Bronson.

Mrs. Frieda Helmke
Mrs. Frieda Helmke, wife of Dietrich Helmke and daughter of Heinrich and Meta Bockelmann, was taken from this time by death on Thursday about noon in the family residence in North Richland after a short illness. She was born in Hannover in the old Fatherland and came as an infant of six months with her family to America. On the 9th of February 1911 she was joined in marriage by Pastor Theo. Schwankovsky of Florida O., with Dietrich Helmke. This marriage resulted in two baby boys, who are now two and four years of age and still very needful of their mother's loving care. The deceased had brought the time of her earthly pilgrimage to 32 years, 10 months and 24 days. Relatives mourning her very sad death are the widower with the two boys, the parents, the brothers Karl and Wilhelm Bockelmann, the sisters Mrs. Otto Meyer and Miss Dore Bockelmann, as well as a large circle of friends.
The burial took place Sunday in the graveyard at Florida, after Pastor Schwankovsky had held a funeral service at 9 o'clock in the former residence and at 10 o'clock in the St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Florida. We wish to offer the deeply sorrowing relatives our most sincere condolences.
The pallbearers at the burial were O. A. Wichmann, F. H. Wichmann, G. W. Wachtmann, H. C. Engel, Fred. Cordes and John Bremer; the flower bearers were Jessie Gackel, Mamie Hammon, Pearl Durham, Florence and Auguste Drexler.
In the name of the survivors, we wish to thank all the friends and neighbors for their sympathetic attendance and Pastor Schwankovsky for his consoling words.
