Joseph M. Brown died on Thursday evening in his residence in Delaware Township at the age of 76 years, 1 month and 25 days. He was an old citizen of that countryside and was held in high esteem by his large circle of acquaintances. Remaining behind are the widow with a few grown children. His mortal remains were buried on Monday morning under the direction of Father F. Butel from the Catholic Church in Marysdale here in the Riverside Cemetery. Acting as pallbearers were Louis Boff, Peter Mack, Michael Gerber, Joseph and Peter Singer and Michael Lero.

Miss Klara Schlembach
Miss Klara Schlembach, daughter of John M. and Maria Schlembach, died on Sunday in Gallipolis, Ohio in the state Hospital for Epileptics. On the 13th of October 1899 she was admitted to that Hospital and since then, as the illness is incurable, had been continually an inmate there. Had she lived until the 16th of May 1916, she would have been 26 years old. She leaves behind the parents, two brothers and four sisters. Her mortal remains arrived here Monday evening on the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad and were taken to the parental residence No. 602 North Clinton Street. The burial took place Wednesday morning in the Riverside Cemetery, after Father J. A. Lane had held a funeral service at 9 o'clock in the St. John's Catholic Church.

Mrs. Gertrude Wolsiffer
Mrs. Gertrude Wolsiffer, aborn Korn and widow of the late Friedrich Wolsiffer, on Sunday evening about 7 o'clock in her residence No. 1017 Davison Street after a lengthy illness was taken from this time by an easy death from the infirmities of age.
Born on the 20th of December 1829 in Kurhessen, Germany, she came with her parents in 1833 to this country, where the family, after a short stay in Hessenkassel in Indiana, settled in Ft. Wayne in that same state. There on the 17th of July 1845 she entered with Friedrich Wolsiffer into the marriage bond, which was released by the death of the spouse in April 1905, after the elderly couple had been able to celebrate the golden wedding anniversary ten years earlier. Mr. and Mrs. Wolsiffer came to Defiance in the year 1847, and since then the now gone to rest had had their home here, so that one could reckon them among the oldest residents of the city. Of the thirteen children, to whom she gave life, three preceded her in death; those surviving are Mrs. Peter Westrick in Cleveland, Mrs. Rosalie Schwable in Toledo, Friedrich T., Alva J. and Miss Caroline Wolsiffer of here; Mrs. V. L. Gilmore in New Orleans, La.; sister Louise and sister Victoria in Fond-du-Lac, Wis.; and Sister Fabiola in Decatur, Indiana. The descendants also include 16 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, [and] the deceased is also survived by the sister Mrs. J. W. Hengstler residing here.
The burial will take place Thursday morning in the Riverside Cemetery.

Mrs. Anna Steenhus
Mrs. Anna Steenhus, a born Wulff, died on Thursday morning about 10 o'clock after a lengthy illness in her residence No. 418 Rulf Street from stomach cancer. On the 31st of May she would have been 82 years old. Born in the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg, she immigrated to this country in the year 1872, lived at first in Texas, Henry County, and later for many years in McClure in the same county. In November 1913 she came to Defiance and remained resident here until her passing. She was twice married; the first spouse was named Plom, the second Steenhus. Both spouses died before her, and one child, whom she had presented to her first spouse, came to his death through drowning. In her last illness, Mrs. Steenhus was able to enjoy the devoted care of her niece Mrs. Wilhelm Bartels and the wife of her nephew Wilhelm Morisse from Bristol, Ind. Besides the nephew and the niece she leaves behind three stepchildren, prior children of her second spouse Wilhelm Steenhus.
A funeral service was held in the former residence on Sunday afternoon, and on Monday afternoon the Christian burial took place in Texas, O. At the burial Pastor H. Folsch officiated.
Mrs. Mary Anna Holly, a born Kuntz, died on Tuesday morning about half past two o'clock in the Defiance Hospital of an incurable internal disease. The deathly ill woman had been brought to the Hospital on Friday, where an operation undertaken on that day by Doctors Smith from Toledo and Chapman from here diagnosed the incurability of her disease. The deceased leaves behind the son Clarence in Chicago Junction, Ohio and the sons Edward and Frank and the daughter Mabel from here. Also remaining behind are the brother Peter J. Kuntz in Defiance and the sister Mrs. Wilhelmine Baade in Brooklyn, N.Y. Her spouse Frank Holly died a few years ago. Jakob Seibel and Wilhelm Kuntz of here and Christ. Kuntz in Dayton, O., are uncles of the deceased.
Mrs. Mary Anna Holly was born in Defiance as daughter of Peter Kuntz and wife and had spent her entire lifetime here. The burial of her remains will take place Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the former residence No. 413 Douglas Street in the Riverside Cemetery. Pastor W. C. Demuth will officiate.
