Miss Anna Strähle died on last Thursday afternoon in her residence not far from the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Washington township, at the age of 51 years and 24 days. On that same farm where she was born, from which she was baptized and confirmed and over which boundaries she never went far, she has now died. Her mortal remains were taken Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the aforementioned Church, of which she was a faithful member for many years, with large attendance and under the direction of Pastor Fr. Henkelmann to the graveyard of the congregation to their final rest. A very gripping funeral oration was given by the faithful pastor of souls on Matth: 5,3: "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven". -- The death is especially sad for the surviving elderly mother, who is over 84 years old and blind. With her mourning the deceased are two brothers and various relatives and friends.
Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven! see, my God has forgiveness (and) Opens to me the door of Heaven. Although I am poor and small on Earth, R ich and great will I be there; Numbered in His flocks, I will forever rejoice.

Paul O. Stever
Drowned in the Auglaize
The Auglaize on Sunday afternoon claimed another victim -- this time a bright boy, the almost 10 year old Paul O. Stever, the only son of Willis O. Stever who lives on the west bank of the Auglaize near the ?fort grounds. At about one o'clock, the boy, without the knowledge of his father, went ice skating with his playmate Dan. Coy, Jr. They crossed the river, but turned back because they found the ice on the east side (to be) rotten. As the little boy reached the west bank and looked around for his comrade, the same had just broken through the ice. Without delay he alerted Mr. Stever, who stocking-footed and without a coat rushed over the ice to help his boy. Barely 20 feet separated him from his son, when he also broke through the ice, which was too weak to bear him, but also too thick, for him to break through with his hands and thus make progress. In the meantime more men had rushed there and the fire-people with ladders had arrived. At great risk of life to themselves, Rollin B. Weible, Peter Weikinger, George Schmid and a few other brave men went onto the ice, but it broke under them also, and wet through, they had to retreat to the bank. It took a full half hour, before a boat could be brought there and Wm. M. Buckmaster with other men was able to rescue Mr. Stever, hanging neck deep in the icy water, from his terrible situation. His little boy had already drowned before the arrival of the men attempting rescue. The remains were recovered about four hours later nearby and were taken to Hoffman's business, to be prepared for burial. The watch, which the little boy carried, had stopped at 20 minutes before 2 o'clock.
The burial took place Wednesday afternoon from the former residence to the Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Pastor P.A. Crow.
Mr. Stever was in a precarious condition for a few days due to exhaustion and the lengthy period in the ice-cold water, but will, if no further complications crop up, soon be recovered. The entire city offers sympathy to the father in his bitter stroke of fate.
